defeat at the end of that war.
The design, which was based on the IRANDUIA-Class Corvette (indeed, the first BLOCKADER-Class vsls were IRANDUIA-Class Corvette captured during the war with the Atorian Empire, though they remained named IRANDUIA-Class until the REF started building their own version), has since then been put to good use in many star systems, and serves as a picket ship for many space stations and planets. Though not powerful enough to survive open space on it's own, the BLOCKADER-Class is a SUBSTANTIAL assets when combined with another, larger, facility. Few colonized planets are without at least one, and many off-world mining and water-collection facilities have them.
The originals ten BLOCKADER-Class ships were, in fact, overhauled IRANDUIA-Class Corvettes, with every square inch of armor removed and replaced with REF Standard armor, and the laser turrets replaced with T'sentraedi Laser turrets. This fleet guarded the prisoner fleet over Mars during the war, and was mostly modified as automated weapons platforms. Only one, the EMPRESSES IMAZADI, was manned, by a joint Human-T'sentraedi force, as the command ship. Since then, all BLOCKADER-Class ships have been purpose-built, and only one of the original IRANDUIA-Class corvette remains, a perfectly-preserved one kept in the Chairman's Point Anchorage as a "historically significant heritage vessel" (i.e. a museum, this one dedicated to the defeat of the Atorian Empire).
The Patrol made a decision to decommission their fleet of BLOCKADERS about 100 years ago, and began selling off the hulls; Of the 500 hulls then in service, 10 are still in commission with the Patrol awaiting replacements, and 453 have been sold. It is a testament to the design that none of these, nor any of the other 4,000-odd hulls that have served, have been scrapped to date unless the vsl had suffered irreparable damage (of which there are over 100, each with a very interesting story to tell). Most of the sold hulls have been purchased by various concerns as not-for-hire shipping interests, such as private (for profit) anti-piracy companies (anti-pirate mercs), high risk shipping and courier service (not unknown to include smugglers), and ironically, pirates (usually purchased under pretext of anti-piracy operations). The Office Of The State has also purchased about a dozen or so for urgent delivery courier duties, due to their high speeds and low moor-to-underway time (only a half hour), though these are also expected to go out of service over the course of the next decade or so. Over 100 are also in service with various civilian shipping academies as working cargo and passenger ships; The extremely difficult process of loading and unloading (these were NOT designed as freighters) and upkeep on the passenger staterooms (not intended as luxury liners, either) give the students a lot of practical experience.

Features:
  • ESM: Radar Detector. Passively detects other radars being operated.
  • Radar: Combat grade radar. Range 100 miles, can track up to 50 individual targets. 95% reliability (24% against unfriendly stealthed vehicles).
  • Blue Force Tracker: Identifies friend from foe. Overlays the information on both the radar and HUD, ensuring that friendly forces are not accidentally targeted.
  • HUD: Displays maps, radar, targeting information, and any OTHER information the wearer wants directly in front of the user. One is located at each weapons control station, and another makes up the majority of the bridge.
  • Virtual Map: Displays a continuously-updating map of local terrain for the bridge. Takes data from and gives data to other friendly units in the area. Effective navigation of 85% as updates come. Good to 500 miles. Specific range can be adjusted in 10,000 mile increments.
  • Anti-Jamming System: Reduces Electronics Countermeasure by 25% (decrease skill level appropriately).
  • GPS: Standard tracking device. Ties into the Blue Force Tracker.
  • FLIR/SLIR: Forward and Side Looking Infrared. Allows pilot to get visuals on targets at night.
  • 1 MC: Internal loudspeaker.
  • Video Camera: Records from the HUD. 5,000 hours of recording available.
