| The obelisk-shaped CAPRICA-Class TAO/KC-200 Refueler (first seen by the REF in the vicinity of Caprica Colony during the short-lived occupation of that world) are an unarmed ship used throughout the Kobolese Confederation to transport fuel, allowing ships and fighters to deploy far in excess of the ranges they are normally capable of without base support. They were first made by and for Gemenon ISO their wars (at the time, against Caprica over mineral rights on some asteroid). CAPRICA-Class TAO/KC-200 Refueler may be used to support an offensive operation, as demonstrated at the Battle of Cimtar (UGC Annexation), and freeing the ships in a given battle to attack the target while fighters deal with enemy fighters and ships at (such as was attempted at Cimtar). The CAPRICA-Class TAO/KC-200 Refuelers were accepting to the UGC inventory without significant modification; The original weapons systems (which were none) and avionics, radios, and other electronics native to Kobolese Confederation replaced with UCG-standard weaps and electronics and the shielding was upgraded, but otherwise it is the same ship that the Gemenese first deployed over 80,000 years ago. Due to their simplicity, low cost of manufacture and operation, and reliability, the CAPRICA-Class TAO/KC-200 Refueler promises to remain a mainstay of the REF and the UGC's Civil Fleet for quite some time to come; Even luxury liners will sometimes arrange to refuel underway ("UnRep") to give the passengers a show. Deployment At least one CAPRICA-Class Refueler deploys for every 12 other ships and 1,000 fighters, bombers, shuttles, and etc. in a given fleet. Employment Fighters bombers, shuttles, and other small craft are usually refueled onboard, although 04 telescopic booms (start at 600 feet and extent up to 1,500 feet) can be utilized if time requirements so demand. These booms have up to 100 refueling nozzles each, and are usually used to refuel ships (all four are extended, then the last nozzles on the line are payed out 800 feet; the ship needing fuel then captures the nozzle). The booms can fold against the hull when not needed. Operations Due to the low number of refuelers per fleet overall, the CAPRICAS must maintain a very high operational tempo; They are literally working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, in one stage or another of fueling. Ironically enough, most of the time is spent in hookup- That's about 3 hours. Most of this time is spent ensuring the two ships are properly hooked up (to prevent blowouts, kickouts, fires, and other accidents). Fueling usually only takes an hour or so; Unhook takes about 2 hours. Reloading a CAPRICA is the reverse problem; Once they get to a fueling station, hook up still takes about 3 hours, unhook takes about 2. But the transfer takes a few days. During this time, the crews are usually on Special Liberty- Report to the ship for your watch sober, and otherwise you're on your own (not that there's much to do in the general vicinity of the fuel docks, though prostitutes tend to collect in the neighborhood; some even advertise with the fuel docks themselves). The bridge of the CAPRICA-Class are deceptive; It's the wide slatted section at the bow, rather than the thinner section most would expect. The slats are to protect the ship and crew from attack; The "false bridge" above that can be used as a pilot house (there is an emergency helm located there and helm controls in the thruster room) but it's intended as the navigation bridge and boom control. Name: When refueling aero-spacecraft, they are referred to as KC-200 Refuelers. When refueling ships, they are referred to as CAPRICA-Class TAO (or just refuelers). In some literature, they are referred to as both; In official documents they are referred to as CAPRICA-Class/KC-200 Refuelers. Model Type: Fleet Fueler/Inflight Refueller. Crew: 200 total. Passengers: Generally none; Never more than 20. MDC By Location: | |||
