These are the upper arm and collar devices of the REF, RDF, and BOS. Per the rank and rate realignment, all UGC militry personnel are required, at a glance, to be easily discernable to all sister branches. Therefore, the Spacy/SPES rank insignia system is taught, and required to be remembered, in the Army, Marine, and ASF, and the Army, Marine, and ASF ranks required training for the Spacy/SPES. The system is pretty simple; The Army, Marine, and ASF have one stripe per rank until E-9; Then it drops to three up and three down with a star. The Spacy/SPES have 1 slash from E-1 to E-3 (although you will never actually meet anyone with one slash, as everyone is promoted to E-2 upon completion of bootcamp). At E-4, it starts all over again until E-7, at which point the Rocker is added and the red turns gold; Stars are added for E-8, E-9, and E-10. All E-10's have their service emblem in the center.

Note: In reference to Spacy/Patrol/Navy/Coast Guard Petty Officers: It is commonly accepted, often considered proper, to refer to them as their Rate Abbreviation and rank; For example, a Third Class Yeoman would be "YN3," a Second Class Storekeeper would be "YN2", a First Class Damage Controlman would be "DC1," a Chief Machinery Technician "MKC," Senior Chief Electronics Technician "ETCS," a Master Chief Boatswains Mate "BMCM." It is not considered improper, informally, to refer to a Third, Second, or First Class Petty Officer as "YN3," "SK2," or "DC1," or a Senior Chief Petty Officer (regardless rate) as "Senior." Chief are informally referred to as "Chief," Master Chiefs as "Master Chief." It is NOT, however, appropriate to refer a Master Cheif as "Master," as this may result in a punishment quite possibly worse than death.
There is only ONE E-10 in each service; Each planet is at their discretion whether or not to have a Navy and/or Coastal Guard; Most of those that do combine them into one service, typically the Coastal Guard (for practicality).
E-7 in the BOS are pretty rare; Most Botherhood Member transfer over to the Officer Corps between Brother (E-4) and Fighter (E-6).
