The Lear Jet was THE standard in luxury executive transport before the Global Civil War, and infact was largely the model for the Presidential-Class Executive Transport; It became so
A Civilian Lear Jet.

again after the wars when a Tiresian firm (with perhaps less than brilliant ingenuity) formed under the name Lear Intergalactic; As the Lear Corporation (and her parent company Bombardier Aviation International) was destroyed during the Global Civil War, there was no one to object. (It didn't hurt that one of the first members of the Tiresian firm was a former Lear Corp engineer; as she was the last known survivor of Lear Corp, control of the company fell to her by default.)
Since Lear Intergalactic's forming, Lear Jets have once again become noted for their obsessive attention to personal luxury for those who can afford these fabulous machines; It doesn't hurt that the Rutan Group was contracted to re-develop the flagship product, the Lear itself, into a fully trans-atmospheric craft. Small "timesharing" companies have actually been formed SPECIFICALLY to maintain these craft on behalf of as few as two or as many as 20 companies, getting even MORE executives into the Lear. Lears are also presented to each Chairman of the UGC, and planetary Governorships as they enter the UGC. (System Administrators usually take a Presidential-Class instead of a Lear.) These craft are so popular that they are even found on Garudan worlds.
There are 2 basic models;
  • The Class A (or alpha) is a planetary bound version, with lengths of 43 ft 3 in (13.18 m) to 58 ft 0 in (17.68 m). There are about 12 sub-classes with variances in primarily in powerplant and length (4 lengths total).
  • The Class B (or bravo, depicted) is a transatmospheric craft of 90 ft even (15.25 m) with wings that fold forward and rotate flat against the fuselage for reentry (though this is no longer intrinsically necessary due to the development of the Charonina-7 Re-entry Kit; it's more often used to conserve hanger space these days). There are no sub-classes of the bravo.
Within the Lears the planes are really one basic, stock configuration; However, before leaving the factory the passenger cabin is outfitted to the customer's specification, up to and including custom interior configurations. More than one customer has in fact paid for an interior decorator to come on board (at the factory) and outfit the cabin to their precise layout (NOT cheap, since Lear Intergalactic charges 5,000credit per day PLUS another 300credit per man-hour the guest is on their property just for the privilege of access).
Lear is VERY particular about their planes; the clothes on passengers backs and consumables are the only items that can be on-board for use by passengers and crew that are not acquired through the Lear Catalog System. The process itself is easy enough, the buyer goes to Lear Intergalactics' website, drops the URL for the desired item into their order toolbar, and Lear's computers will "verify compliance for safety." Once this is approved, the item can be purchased and used (again, does not apply to consumables) onboard. Purchasing a sippy cup outside of Lear's system will result in a voidance of warranty, whether the accident is their fault, your fault, or nobody's fault at all.
    Pricing:
Pricing is based on class and accommodations:
Class A's are priced by length; The 45' A1 is 51,000credit, the 51 ft A2 60,000credit, the 57 ft A3 65,000credit, and the 58 ft A4 68,000credit. These prices reflect a coach-class commuter or industrial/commercial plane or (15 passenger, 18 passenger, 21 passenger, or 30 passenger, an equivalent number of tons of cargo, or 1/3 the number of tons of industrial equipment).
Class B's, having only one length (90 ft) start at 72,000credit each for the basic model.
Accommodations can increase these costs significantly; A private home of a Lear can run at 250,000credit, and the prics CAN keep going up. The most expensive on record was 23 millioncredit.

    Primary: Grav pods
    Secondary: Aero-foil effect.
Cost and Availability: The Lear averages 75,000credit each; Always available.
Black Market Cost & Availability: None; It's legally available. Stolen ones are a rarity.
    Weapons Systems:
In another era, the Lears were unarmed; These are SUPPOSED to be civilian craft. Times changed, however, and now they are modestly armed for self-defense. Their primary protect remains the fact that they ARE Lears, however; Anyone who can afford one of these is of sufficient gravitas that their disappearance will be noted, and might well result in the arrival of an entire Spacy battle fleet (and that means a BREETIA TULL-Class UDF and her entire fleet, plus or minus a Robotech Factory or Neotech Factory).
    1. Turret Lasers (2 turrets, 1 or 2 lasers each): A 1/1 copy of the Veritech's head lasers, 2 retractable turrets are mounted (1 dorsal 1 ventral) about amidship. Mountings for more turrets are pre-installed (up to 20 total), but more than 4 will draw attention from Lear Intergalactic's sales reps, and this attention will be passed onto the GIS.
MD: 1D4 MD per laser (4D4 max).
    Range: 2000 ft (600 m).
Rate Of Fire: Equal to the gunner's combined number of attacks.
    Payload: Effectively Unlimited.
Cost: Around 2,000credit for single-mount turret and 2,500credit for dual mount turrets, plus 1,230-2,100credit per laser.
    2. Wing Hardpoints: 2 hardpoints are installed on each wing, but anything other than a fuel pod will draw attention. These must be purchased via the Lear Catalog as well (they "are" authorized to sell them), but these purchases will automatically flag the craft for "further inquiry."
    Purpose: Varies.
    MD: Varies.
Rate of Fire: Per pilot or co-pilot's attacks per melee.
    Range: Varies.
Payload: 2 per wing (4 total).

    Features:
    • ESM: Radar Detector. Passively detects other radars being operated.
    • Radar: Civilian grade radar. Range 100 miles, can track up to 50 individual targets. 95% reliability (00% against unfriendly stealthed vehicles).
    • Blue Force Tracker: Identifies friend from foe. Overlays the information on both the radar and HUD, ensuring that friendly forces are not accidentally targeted.
    • GPS: Standard tracking device. Ties into the Blue Force Tracker.
    • AMC/FD (2): Anti-Missile Chaff/Flare Dispensers. Actually launches a glob of burning magnesium/aluminum alloy to confuse both radar AND heat sensory systems. Fires off 04 chaff/flares each time it is activated. The system is KNOWN to work on all KNOWN radar and infrared systems, but concerns continue that somewhere out there their MIGHT be a system that will be totally unaffected by the system. Reduce effects by 20% against smart missiles (add +20% to rolls for smart missiles).
      Effect:
01-50 Enemy missile or missile volley detonates in chaff cloud- Missiles are all destroyed.
51-75 Enemy missile or missile volley loses track of real target and veers away in wrong direction (may lock onto another target).
76-00 No effect, missile is still on target.
Also note that the chaff cloud will also blind nearby heat sensors (and optically based sensors at night) for 1 melee. They will suffer the following penalties: Reduce melee attacks/actions, and combat bonuses by half.
      Duration: 1D4 melee rounds.
Payload: 60 chaff/flares. Each time the system is engaged, the system fires off 04 chaff/flares.
    • Anti-Jamming System: Reduces Electronics Countermeasure by 3/4 (decrease skill level appropriately).
    • HUD: Displays maps, radar, targeting information, and any OTHER information the wearer wants directly in front of the user.
    • FLIR/SLIR: Forward and Side Looking Infrared. Allows pilot to get visuals on targets at night.
    • Virtual Map: Displays a continuously-updating map of local terrain for the pilot. Takes data from and gives data to other friendly units in the area. Effective land navigation of 85% as updates come. Good to 500 miles. Specific range can be adjusted in 1 mile increments.
    • Video Camera: Records from the HUD. 50 hours of recording available.
    • Full range optic sensory suite: Infrared, ultra violet, Magnification, night sight, color filters, thermal imager. Range is about 200 miles for MOST sensors.
    • Limousine Docking Collar: Allows smaller limousines (sch as the Sterling Industries EL-71) to be driven right into the fuselage for greater safety of the occupant.
    • Folding Wings: The wings of the Lear Jet cna be swung back, then folded up and against the fuselage for easier storage aboard a Presidential-Class Executive Transport and for re-entry (reduces stress on the wings). While folded, he viewports aft of the wings are obscured, ranging from fully for those closest to only the bottom forward corners for the last ones.
    • Survival Pack: A pack of simpler emergency survival supplies: Pup tent, sleeping bag, black light, GPS, first aid kit (bandages, gauze, bandage tape, pads, antiseptic/analgesic), plasma torch (for small repairs and starting fires), repair kit (with MDC Repair Spray), sewing kit (a small spool of thread and 5 needles), 7 star flares (250 ft apogee), 100 ft of black or brown parachute cord (150 lbs tensile strength; This is in addition to several hundred ft from their parachute itself), 2-5 days rations, 2 gallons water, water purification kit (good for about 10 gallons), manual-inflating liferaft (for at-sea abandonment), self-inflating lifevest (15# buoyancy). The liferaft can also double as a Pup Tent if so desired (though most pilots prefer to use a parachute for that, if anything, due to the fact that it is easier to hide). NOTE: Because the craft does not have rotors, it can not auto rotate for a crash landing.
    • Smoke Dispensers (8): Throws out smoke flares capable of covering a 503 ft area. Special chemicals in the smoke obscures IR and heat sensors, and defeats visual tracking of the vehicle. Note that it DOESN'T make the vehicle invisible, but simply negates ALL bonuses to strike.
Combat Bonuses from Lear Jet Combat Elite:
    • 1 additional attack per melee.
    • +2 Strike.
    • +6 Dodge.
