DiscussionThe Z'Ceptor was an aero-spacefighter made out of the parts from a Z-95 Headhunter and a TIE Interceptor, with an Astromech Drone grafted into the nose. The fighter uses the frontal fuselage and engines of the Headhunter, attached to the "eyeball" fuselage of the Interceptor, and Z'Ceptor |

the lower radiator panels of the Interceptor. Weapon wise, the fighter had the two lasers from the TIE's wings, the Z-95's laser cannons were attached to either side of the fuselage. The fighter also bears the twin barreled ion cannon turret from Y-Wing mounted on top of the "eyeball." Interestingly, a second port for an Astromech Drone was situated inside the aft compartment of the fighter- Therefore the second Astromech is INSIDE the fighter, not outside as is normal. The Z'Ceptor was unusual, in the sense that it was developed by and for the Robotech Expeditionary Forces for their own use- Or, more specifically, for the use of RDF'ers deploying with the REF. However, the upkeep and maintenance of the Z'Ceptor was too high, and the difficulties in learning a second, hyper-sophisticated fighter system proved daunting. On the plus side, the Z'Ceptor was equal to the Alpha Veritech in fighter and Guardian modes.DevelopmentThe Z'Ceptor was a hybrid of the Headhunter, TIE-In, X- and Y-Wing fighters. The Dual SFS L-s1 laser cannon turret from the Y-Wing was an afterthought; The twin IX4 laser cannons (forward) were the original specification, along with the twin SFS L-s9.3 Laser Cannons; However, unlike most previous fighters, the Z'Ceptor turned the ball of the TIE around, pointing the SFS L-s9.3 Laser Cannons AFT, meaning that the traditiona weak point of the fighter, the dog's tail, was covered. This wasn't totally unprecedented, but was rarely ever seen before this.As is so common on black-market programs, the rogue engineers who put the fighter to market improved on the design. The eyeball section of the fuselage can actually SPIN 360 degrees, allowing the pilot to remain is a stable plane relative to a given point, while the fighter moves around to confront a target. They also slightly changed the solar panel S-Foils to increase the amount of angle from 45 degrees (essentially pointing at each other in a 90 degrees angle over the fighter) to 00 degrees (pointed exactly away from each other).HistoryspaceSecurityBecause the REF abandoned the program, the blueprints sat on a shelf; Then, one day, Whoosh! They were gone. No back-up copies, nothing. A few months after the theft was noted, a Steinierian malcont faction showed up with a half-dozen of these (along side the more common Ator variant of the Spacer Space Fighter). This appears to have been nothing more than field test, to demonstrate the craft's abilities. They faired respectably, suffering only a 25% loss rate before being withdrawn at a roughly equal losses by Fehran RDF.Now just about every malconts faction has a few of them; Worse, they've been re-designed with hyperspace drives. However, the RDF's have met this threat fairly well with the X-Ceptor (the Chir'daki have pretty well rolled all of those that have come anywhere near the Twi'lek's homeworld).DeploymentThe REF has deployed the Z'Ceptor in limited numbers with 338TH Fleet (UES AGAMEMNON, SDF-338) in a sweep of Sector 18 hunting malconts; However, a malcont base was discovered, and some 200+ Z'Ceptor engaged the REF Fleet. Since then, the REF has abandoned the project entirely; There are no Z'Ceptors in the REF inventory, and they will not pay for RDF's to have them. This program, so far as the REF is concerned, is dead.Name: Z'Ceptor Fighter Ugly.Model Type: Aero-Space Fighter.Crew: One.Drones: None; An Astromech Drone is grafted in.Passengers: None.MDC By Location: |

1. Quad SFS L-s9.3 Laser Cannons: Originally designed for the TIE-Interceptor, these are mounted on the forward points of the wings; This is the pilot's most common weap, and the one most preferred for it's cycling design. Purpose: Dogfighting. MD Per Laser: 1D4 per blast. Rate of Fire: Four times pilots attacks per melee; Each time the trigger is pulled, one of the lasers fire one after another, effectively negating an enemies dodge bonus. Range: 2,000 feet. Payload: Unlimited.
2. Twin Taim & Bak KX5 Laser Cannons: Purpose: Dogfighting/Anti-Armor. MD Per Laser: 3D6 per blast. Rate of Fire: Per pilot's attakcs per melee. Range: 1,500 feet. Payload: Unlimited; Unlike the X-TIE, REF engineers were able to develop capacitors able to keep up with the power demand.
| 3. Medium-Range Proton Torpedo Launcher: In the ventral side of the fighter is the missile launcher. They are set in a triple stack of 7 each in the top and bottom rows and 6 in the middle (20 total). The missile needs at least 5 miles miles to arm. Purpose: Anti-Ship. MD Per Missile: 3D6 times 10 each. Blast Radius: 50 feet. Armament Distance: 5 miles. Rate of Fire: one or two missile per pilot's attacks per melee. Range: 50 miles. Payload: 20 total.
4. Sheilds: Exactly the same as any other variable full-force barrier field. Purpose: Defense. MDC Per Panel: 200 each. Number of Panel: 8. Coverage Characteristics: A full 360 degrees coverage area around the craft. Notes: Requires only one melee action to raise or change densities; Can be slaved to fire-control to raise/lower automatically upon firing. |
Features: |
- Video Recorder: Records from sensors and the cockpit itself. 500 hours of recording available.
- Radar: Combat grade radar. Range: 200 miles, can track up to 250 individual targets. 95% reliability (24% against unfriendly stealthed vehicles).
- FLIR/SLIR: Forward and Side Looking Infrared. Allows pilot and weapons officer to get visuals on targets at night.
- ESM: Radar Detector. Passively detects other radars being operated.
- AJP: Active Jamming Pod. Causes -25% to detection but when it is active, other vehicles/bases can detect that it is jamming, and some missiles will home in on jamming signals. Jamming also causes a -4 penalty to all radar guided weapons.
- Full Range Sensory Suite: Infrared, ultra violet, Magnification, night sight, color filters, thermal imager. Range is about 2,000 miles for MOST sensors.
- Motion Detector: Activates a loud wailing when an object is coming at the user fast, and a soft ringing if it's coming slowly. Activation ranges must be specified by the pilot.
| - Anti-Jamming System: Reduces Electronics Countermeasure by 3/4 (decrease skill level appropriately).
- Electronic Counter Measures (ECM): These systems disrupt enemy radar and tracking systems, making it difficult for them to lock onto the ship with weapons. The countermeasures give the Mecha a +3 to dodge, +2 to strike and +1 on initiative in combat.
- Fire resistance: Fires external to the craft have no effect on it.
- Grav Clamps: Electro magnets in the underside of the hull allow the unit to adhere to the hulls of Warships and the exteriors of SOME buildings.
- MRA 6 Radios: Allows real time, continuous radio link up with friendly forces in the area via satellite relay over laser radio signals, preventing jamming, and automatically encrypts/decrypts same to prevent eavesdropping.
- Type-11 wide band radios: Effective 10 mile range, auto encrypt/decrypt. Works on standard radio band wavelengths, so it can still be jammed (if the enemy knows the frequencies).
