The Goa'uld.
The Goa'uld Galaxy, formerly Galaxy UDFj-39546284 by UGC Star Charts, is a galaxy relatively near the Milky Way. It is fully inhabited at this time, and was ruled for many eons by a collection of petty dictators referred to as the System Lords, who were in turned ruled by Supreme System Lord named Ra. The System Lords declared themselves Gods, when in fact they were merely highly evolved creatures that would embed themselves in larger, physically more powerful creatures; Some acted as parasites, controlling their hosts, others as symbiotes, taking strength and efficiency from their hosts and offering intelligence, information, wisdom, and most of all long life with very good health in return. The parasitic faction practiced slavery; The symbiotic faction not only abhorred this, but in fact violently so.
Over the 10 million-ish years of recorded history of the Goa'uld Galaxy, the galaxy had primarily been at war with itself; The System Lords vied and jockeyed for power and the affections of Ra (who's own private army was quite impressive; it's believed to have numbered over

These invaders were eventually cast out, but not before doing much damage throughout the galaxy. Today, only 6 of their warships and about 1,000 of their fighters remain (it is believed their fleet of warships alone totaled 2-6 thousand at the time of invasion).
UGC Arrival
The arrival of the UGC 100 years ago changed much; There was already a massive uprising of popular and populist discontent, with the indentured warriors (see "Jaffa" below) seeking to free themselves of their masters (the System Lords). The Galactic Information Bureau, in cooperation with the Galactic Survey Agency, supplied specialist teams (Stargate Teams) to train, equip, and organize the rebel factions, which brought down all but one System Lord (Ba'al).

"I mean we have no right to play God. But neither do the Goa'uld. Now I know none of this seems real to you on paper, but trust me, they're pure evil."
    - Dr. Daniel JACKSON
The Goa'uld are a race of sentient parasitic beings that take over hosts. Several species can serve as hosts, including humans and Unas. They originated on the planet designated P3X-888. They are also extremely egomaniacal due to their genetic memory and the adverse mental effects of the sarcophagus technology. Goa'uld means "god" in the Goa'uld language. Races which will not serve them are completely destroyed without compromise.
Although the majority of them are one-dimensionally genocidal, megalomaniacal, and in some cases (such as Cronus, and, to a lesser extent, Ra) apparently barely self-aware (living out the patterns of their behavior as they existed thousands of years ago), there were a few exceptions. Apophis at times showed an unusual amount of insight, lucidity, and tenacity for a Goa'uld, showing great resourcefulness in escaping from Sokar's imprisonment, which in turn allowed him to gain control over Sokar's forces and become a greater threat than before. Heru'ur was seen on the battlefield with his Jaffa as an active general, risking his own life alongside them rather than hiding behind them (as Ra in particular had done). Ba'al was also able to survive the demise of the rest of the System Lords (even up until the very end of the series) through being infinitely more flexible and adaptable than any of the others had been, even at times allying with Tau'ri when he felt the situation warranted it. For a Goa'uld, gender appears to be a matter of choice, or persona, and is not always defined by the Host; one example is Osiris occupying a female body. Goa'uld appear, to a certain extent, to be able to express, and feel love, for their mate, or to a lesser extent, their children.
    History
    Early Beginnings
The Goa'uld first arose in the waters of P3X-888, originally as predators. Eventually, they began taking the native Unas as hosts, becoming more adaptive. They eventually learned how to operate the Stargate the Ancients placed on P3X-888 and left, taking Unas slave armies with them.
Under the leadership of Atok, the Goa'uld developed the first of their society as conquerors, stealing Ancient technology and adapting it to their purposes. In 22,000 BC, Atok was killed by his son Apep, and he reordered the leadership of the Goa'uld. Apep shared power among his underlings, Ra, Nut, and Thoth. However, around 17,800BC, another Goa'uld began to rise in power: Anubis. Apep's powers began to decline in this time, and Anubis gained more power. Anubis then killed Apep, devouring the symbiote before the eyes of the Goa'uld. However, Ra managed to rally the others in Apep's name. After three centuries of civil war, Anubis was defeated and exiled. Ra organized a new leadership called the High Council of the System Lords. Ra installed himself as the Supreme System Lord of the Goa'uld Empire, and took the Goa'uld Queens Hathor and Egeria as mates.
    The Reign of Ra
Around 10 500 BC, Ra discovered a healthy world with a primate race: Humans reseeded bythe Ancients before they left Earth. Ra took a young native as a host. Revitalized, Ra began allowing the other System Lords access to the Tau'ri. Some were used as worshippers and slaves in naquadah mines, others were taken to Dakara, and turned into a genetically altered slave-soldier called the Jaffa, to serve as warriors and incubators for larval Goa'uld. A rebellion in 2,995 BC ended Goa'uld dominion on Earth, but Humans had already been seeded throughout the Goa'uld Empire, so Ra felt no need to reconquer the planet.
Soon, however, Egeria began to have doubts about the future of the Goa'uld, and their cruel, destructive ways. Siring a legion of prim'ta, she in turn named them the Tok'ra, the "resistance against Ra". The Supreme System Lord discovered Egeria's treachery, dispatched a force, and captured her, removing her from her host and placing her in a Stasis jar on Pangar.
In1994, the Tau'ri reopened the Stargate, and sent a team through to Abydos. Ra captured some of them, and found a nuclear device that Colonel JackO'Neill had been given in case he found any threats. Ra enriched the device with naquadah, and prepared to send it through to Earth, but Daniel Jackson had told the Abydonians the truth about Ra. They rebelled, and Ra was forced to flee the planet. However, O'Neill and Jackson killed Ra by ringing the primed bomb aboard Ra's vessel as it was taking off, thus evading the orders to destroy the Abydonian stargate (along with its surrounding population) should the exploration team discover a threat to Earth.
    The Reign of Apophis
After the death of Ra, the System Lords warred among themselves to replace him. Eventually, Cronus, Heru'ur, and Ba'al came out stronger than before, but the dominant System Lord was Apophis. After SG-1 caused various setbacks for him, Apophis in turn launched an attack on Earth. However, SG-1 was able to get aboard Klorel's HA'TAK-Class Battleship, and sabotage both it and Apophis' HA'TAK. Apophis and Klorel survived, but Apophis was severely weakened. Under assault from Heru'ur and Sokar, Apophis was eventually captured by Sokar and sent to Netu.
When SG-1 arrived to rescue Jacob Carter, Apophis launched a rebellion, and escaped Netu when the Tok'ra destroyed it. Apophis soon took control of Sokar's forces, and then Heru'ur's, after an abortive alliance. After the death of Cronus, Apophis took his fleet to destroy the Tok'ra on Vorash. Major Samantha Carter came up with the plan to destroy Apophis' fleet by causing Vorash's sun to explode. The plan worked, but caused SG-1's HA'TAK to be sent to another galaxy, along with Apophis' mothership.
The Replicators soon infested Apophis' mothership, and Apophis took over SG-1's mothership, but it was also infested with Replicators. SG-1 sabotaged the vessel, causing it to crash into Delmak. Apophis was aboard the HA'TAK at the time, and was killed in the crash. As his body was presumably destroyed in the crash, he was killed beyond being resurrected with a sarcophagus.
The Return and reign of Anubis
With the three dominant System lords dead, the remaining System Lords began a fierce war among themselves to dominate the others. However, they also began to experience a new threat among themselves, as one enemy attacked using only ships, never with Jaffa. The System Lords eventually called the High Council to deal with the issue. The recently returned Osiris also arrived, revealing the identity of their enemy- Anubis. Osiris gave the others two options: restore Anubis to the state of System Lord, or place themselves at the "mercy" of Anubis. Despite the objections of Lord Yu, Anubis was restored to his former status. What they didn't know was that Anubis had achieved Ascension, only to be cast down by the Others, leaving him unable to use significant powers, but with a great deal of knowledge of Ancient technology, but unable to use any of that knowledge that he would not have been able to know as a Goa'uld.
Within a matter of months, Anubis began a series of attacks against the Tau'ri, the Tok'ra, and the Asgard. He also developed a new mothership, capable of destroying a planet. Lord Yu at first waged a one man war against Anubis, but eventually managed to rally the other System Lords into a United Alliance of System Lords. However, Yu's powers began to decline, and Ba'al took over the leadership of the System Lords.
Sensing the growing dissent among the Jaffa due to the actions of Teal'c and Bra'tac, Anubis created anew foot soldier called the Kull. They had energy absorbing armor, increased strength, and were utterly loyal to Anubis. The Tau'ri and the Tok'ra were able to make a weapon with the Ancient healing device, but Anubis now dominated the System Lords.
Fearing that the Tau'ri may have gained Ancient weaponry, Anubis launched a full scale invasion of Earth, using over thirty motherships and his super mothership. SG-1, however, discovered the Antarctic outpost left when Atlantis left for the Pegasus Galaxy, using the drone weapons to destroy Anubis' ship and his fleet, presumably killing Anubis. He survived due to his non-corporeal state, but the aftermath of the battle was devastating for Anubis.
    The Reign of Ba'al
The defeat of Anubis caused a massive power vacuum among the System Lords. In order to avoid open war, they agreed to divide his territories among themselves evenly. However, Ba'al managed to discover Tartarus and imprint his will upon the Kull. Using them and the ships Anubis left behind, Ba'al began conquering the System Lords and absorbing their territories: Bastet and Olokun were killed, Morrigan surrendered, Ares fled but was killed by General Jack O'Neill, Moloc was killed by the Tau'ri with two missiles, and Camulus sought asylum among the Tau'ri but was ultimately sent to Ba'al and presumably killed by him. Lord Yu and Amaterasu prepared an offensive, but were defeated. What no one knew was that Anubis had returned, and was using Ba'al as an unwilling puppet.
Eventually, the Replicators began a full scale invasion of the Milky Way, coming into conflict with the Goa'uld Empire. Most of the System Lords such as Yu were killed, with Ba'al being the only apparent survivor. Many among the Rebel Jaffa returned toBa'al, believing the Replicators to be a "divine punishment". Teal'c and the remaining rebels launched an attack on Dakara, and Jacob Carter discovered that the Dakara superweapon could be used to destroy the Replicators. Jacob, Lt. Col. Carter, and Ba'al agreed to reprogram the device, and use it to destroy the Replicators. The plan worked, but the Rebel Jaffa were able to take Ba'al's HA'TAK, forcing him to flee. The remaining Jaffa rebelled en mass. Anubis attempted to retake Dakara, to use the weapon to destroy all life in the Milky Way. However, Oma Desala, who had helped Anubis ascend, chose to battle with him for all eternity. This prevents Oma from helping others to ascend, but also means that Anubis can no longer interfere on the lower planes.
Bereft of power, and a fugitive of the Free Jaffa Nation, Ba'al fled to Earth, and took control of the Trust. To throw off the Free Jaffa, Ba'al created a series of clones and allowed one of them to be captured and killed by Gerak. Ba'al also attempted to anew plan of conquest: by stealing Stargates and cutting them off from the rest of the network, he intended to activate the Dakara superweapon and destroy all life in the galaxy, causing the Ori, who had recently learned of human life in the Milky Way, to lose interest in the galaxy. SG-1 sabotaged his efforts.
Eventually, Ba'al learned of the Sangraal. Desiring a weapon that could neutralize the Ancients and the Ori, Ba'al began searching for the Sangraal. He was forced to work with SG-1 and Adria, the leader of the Ori Army. However, the Ori found the planet they were on and took the Sangraal. SG-1 later sent it through to the Ori Home Galaxy.
Hoping to end the Ori invasion, Ba'al captured Adria and took her as a host. He also killed his clones, hoping to cover his tracks. Lt. Colonel Cameron Mitchell killed Ba'al during the capture of Adria, and the symbiote placed in her was soon removed. However, Mitchell expressed doubt over whether Ba'al was finally dead, fearing that one or more of Ba'al's clones may have survived.
Ultimately, the last of Ba'al's clones was captured and extracted, only for the clone to claim prior to his extraction that the real Ba'al had a contingency plan. Just then, the real one uses a solar flare in conjunction with a Stargate to travel back in time to prevent the Earth Stargate from getting to America by sinking the ship that was taking it to America in 1938, thereby changing the present. Using his knowledge of the future, Ba'al then rose to the highest level in the renewed Goa'uld Empire, bringing a massive fleet to conquer Earth with Qetesh as his queen and Teal'c as his First Prime. Though all of the Systems Lords wished to obliterate Earth from the face of the universe, Ba'al decided to treat them leniently. This got Qetesh suspicious and forced Ba'al to reveal the location of his monitoring base before she killed him. Fortunately, the remaining members of SG-1- who had escaped the alterations to history thanks to them travelling through the Stargate at the moment that history finished changing in the aftermath of Ba'al's modifications- allied with Teal'c and travelled to Ba'al's monitoring base, using the Stargate and a convenient solar flare to send Mitchell back in time to 1929, allowing him to get into position to be on board the transport ship and kill Ba'al before he destroyed history. With the real Ba'al dead, the extraction went uninterrupted. The Ba'al symbiote died from the extraction while his host survived. With the death of the real Ba'al and his last remaining clone, the last remaining Goa'uld System Lord was dead and the Empire had fallen.
    Overview
    Symbiote
    "It's a slimy, snake-like alien creature -- burrows into
people's heads and takes control of their bodies."
    - John SHEPPARD
The Goa'uld themselves are small snake-like Symbiotes that require a host body. Once they burrowed into body which can be accomplished by piercing the skin in the neck, the parasite begins to wrap itself around the Human spine. The symbiote then weaves itself around the nervous system where thin filaments are extended that go up into the brain itself.
Once the Goa'uld has taken control of the host body and has become one with it, it possesses the capacity to exert a remarkable level of control over it. This allowed them the capacity to kill the host at will if need be or if they are threatened by others. Standard surgical techniques were proven to be ineffective in removing the symbiote. It is unknown why the Goa'uld which infested Kawalsky could not be removed, after the symbiote was (though it appears there was a piece that was not removed from him, for reasons unknown, which dropped out of his head after he was killed by the Stargate). Even advanced Humans can be susceptible to this as the symbiote can release a deadly poison that can kill the host upon removal. However, the advanced techniques of the Tok'ra allowed them to safely remove a symbiote without causing any permanent physical damage to the host however it is never certain that the symbiote will not release a poison if they try to remove it. This was the case with Adria.
Infant Goa'uld that had not reached maturity were not capable of fully taking over a host and only retained control of them for short periods of time which were experienced as black outs by the host. This results in a struggle being fought over the host body between the symbiote and the host itself. In its young state, a symbiote was capable of shedding a dead husk of skin that resembles its body and can make surgeons believe they removed the Goa'uld.
A special class of Goa'uld are the Queens which are responsible for producing new young larval Goa'uld for implantation into Jaffa. When encountering a new tribe of Humans or a different race, the Queen requires to first sample the DNA, or "code of life" as the Goa'uld refer to it, from the species intended to be a host. This is to ensure that there is no rejection during the process between host and larva.
One of the unique factors of the Goa'uld race includes their genetic memory which provides each newborn symbiote the collective knowledge of all the Goa'uld that came before it. Another element included within their body's was Naquadah which served as a key to activating their technology and even allowed them to sense the naquadah present within a Stargate. This does not appear to be a natural aspect of their biology, however, as the early Goa'uld lacked this element within their blood chemistry.
The wild Goa'uld on their homeworld have been shown to cannibalize fellow symbiotes, and also lack naquadah in their blood. The symbiote is also capable of making its eyes glow in the same way it can with a host.
    The Host
    "Nothing of the host survives."
    -Klorel
Within a host, a Goa'uld parasite has complete control. Typically entering in through the neck, the Goa'uld will attach itself to the spinal cord which allows access to the brain, leaving an entry mark at the neck. When within a host, the Goa'uld gives perfect health, increased strength, and increased intelligence. When in control of the body, the symbiote is capable of making the hosts eyes glow, and also speak in a deep, booming voice. The voice, however, is unnecessary. It may be used to differentiate between parasite and host, as the Tok'ra do, or simply be used to intimidate slaves and opponents.
Being taken as a host by a Goa'uld is often considered a terrible fate for the host, as they are suppressed and forced to witness countless horrors. The Goa'uld maintain that the host essentially dies when the Goa'uld takes control, but this has been proven false on numerous occasions. However, a system lord's lo'taur often considers being taken as a host a "great honor" (they are also around just in case something happens to the host). Certain strong-willed hosts are capable of fighting the control of younger symbiotes that have infested them although only to a marginal extent, such as suppressing a hand movement for a few seconds.
The Goa'uld are capable of infesting a wide variety of hosts, from Humans to Unas (which were the Goa'uld'sfirst hosts, because they shared their homeworld with them). They can also take Asgard bodies as hosts for a short period of time, though the Asgard's genetic makeup eventually rejects the symbiote causing the host's body to wither and die. Two species which cannot be taken as hosts are the Ilempiri and Jaffa. A child of two Goa'uld hosts is called Harcesis and has all the genetic memory of the Goa'uld. A few hosts were freed from their Goa'uld, including Skaara, ValaMal Doran, Kendra, Sarah Gardner and a Ba'al clone.
    Society
One of the most likely threats a Goa'uld lord can face is being challenged by their children.
The final wish a Goa'uld can give their First Prime was the task of avenging their death if they were betrayed or killed by a rival.
Minor Goa'uld are often forced to serve the more powerful as Underlords and can consist of former warlords that were defeated. While they can serve as lieutenants and commander for the lord in question, there was the danger of the Underlord plotting to overthrow their master.
The highest authority among the Goa'uld race included the ranks of the System Lords who fielded vast armies under their command as well as warred with one another for dominance. They make use of personal servants who are normal humans known as Lo'taur that served their every needs. On some occasions, the Lo'taur was used to serve as a spy and gain vital information from the other Lo'taur.

The System Lords are the few dozen of the ruling class in the Goa'uld hierarchy, who function as the leadership of the Goa'uld Empire.
    Characteristics
Usually the System Lords assume the persona of a god and rule many worlds by force through their armies of Jaffa warriors, and with a few Goa'uld, notably Ra, human warriors. The Goa'uld's main weakness is their feudal nature. Although they will reluctantly unite to defend against outside threats such as the Asgard or the Tau'ri, they battle among themselves for supreme domination. The greatest danger has been the threat of a single Goa'uld rising to dominant power and overtaking the System Lord collective.
One such instance is when Sokar had amassed a huge army and planned to launch a massive attack against six key System Lords, which would have overthrown the balance of power in the galaxy, however Sokar was eliminated by an alliance of the Tau'ri and the Tok'Ra.
    History
Membership among the System Lords has changed greatly throughout the millennia. Membership was decided by the High Council of System Lords, a rare gathering of their membership. Though they constantly warred amongst themselves for power, they did work together when it suited them.
For thousands of years, Ra was the Supreme System Lord, until he was killed in 1996 by the Tau'ri. They rarely trust each other, and very frequently battle amongst themselves, only holding council with regards to a mutual external or internal threat.
The Tok'Ra usually try to keep the System Lords balanced so that no single System Lord can completely overpower the others. The Asgard also follow this strategy.
After the fall of Sokar, Apophis gained control of his forces instead. The shift in power resulted in Apophis and Heru'ur commanding the two largest armies of the Goa'uld. An alliance between them would overwhelm the System Lords; a war between them would decimate both sides and return the balance of power to the System Lords. Apophis and Heru'ur agreed to meet in the neutral territory of the Tobin system to discuss an alliance, however Apophis deceived his enemy, destroyed Heru'ur, and took control of his forces, giving him command of the largest of the Goa'uld armies. Apophis lost his fleet, however, when SG-1 created a supernova from the sun of Vorash, and Apophis himself was killed when his ship was infiltrated by Replicators and forced to crash into the planet Delmak.
With the deaths of Ra, Hathor, Setesh, Sokar, Heru'ur, Cronus, and now Apophis at the hands of the Tau'ri, the old order had fallen, and the resultant void created a power vacuum that the remaining System Lords fought to exploit. Seven key System Lords, Ba'al, Bastet, Kali, Morrigan, Olokun, Svarog, and Yu, declared a truce and arranged a summit on a space station in the neutral territory of the Hasara System to discuss the establishment of a new order. Threatened by the reemergence and increasing power of Anubis, the System Lords voted to return Anubis to the status of System Lord, and they formed an uneasy alliance to confront their greatest challenges: dissent and disbelief within the Jaffa ranks, infiltration and subversion by the Tok'Ra, and the threat from the Tau'ri of Earth. However, as Anubis consolidated his power, he rose to a position of supreme domination capable of overtaking the System Lord collective, and the alliance began to crumble.
Armed with the power of the six artifacts known as the Eyes of the Goa'uld, Anubis defeated the collective forces of the System Lords, led by Yu, and was left in possession of a powerful weapon that gave him clear superiority. As Anubis used his power to decimate the forces of the System Lords, SG-1 devised a plan to eliminate his superweapon, and Yu pledged to bring the full force of the remaining System Lords against him. However, with Yu's mental competence failing, Ba'al took command instead and led the combined forces of the System Lords against Anubis at Kelowna. Although Anubis escaped, his forces were defeated, and Ba'al rapidly began consolidating his power, taking control of the United Alliance of System Lords, a union for which Stargate Command was partially responsible.
Meanwhile, Anubis rebuilt his forces from his base on Tartarus where he created an army of Kull Warriors, synthetically created Goa'uld drone soldiers, and launched attacks against rival Goa'uld, absorbing their resources in preparation for battle with Ba'al and the System Lords. Through the cooperation of the Tau'ri, Tok'Ra, and the Jaffa, more System Lords had fallen in the past seven years than in the previous seven hundred years, and Anubis next turned his attention to his greatest threat: Earth. He gathered the full force of his fleet and sent more than 30 Ha'tak motherships into Earth's orbit. In a massive battle over Antarctica, Anubis was defeated when Colonel Jack O'Neill drew upon the knowledge of the Ancients and activated the Ancient defense weapon which sent thousands of energy drones swarming into orbit and annihilated Anubis's fleet.
Anubis was presumed destroyed, and his defeat created a volatile situation among the remaining System Lords. The High Council of System Lords, an unstable and rather flimsy coalition of approximately a dozen of the most powerful Goa'uld in the galaxy who cooperate only when necessary, was unprepared for the sudden shift in power. In order to avoid open war, the System Lords came to an agreement to divide Anubis's territories and his armies evenly among them, but Ba'al broke the agreement, took command of Anubis's army of Kull Warriors, and tipped the balance of power in his favor. Many of the System Lords began to speak of capitulation, and three representatives, Camulus, Yu, and Amaterasu, approached Earth, seeking an alliance against Ba'al in the hope that the Ancient defense weapon in Antarctica would prevent his domination of the galaxy. The United States' President authorized Dr. Elizabeth Weir to pursue negotiations, however no agreement was reached, and the alliance failed.
The Jaffa of the System Lords were no match for the Kull Warriors of Ba'al's army, and the war between Ba'al and the System Lords reached a critical stage when Bastet and Olokun were killed, Morrigan capitulated, and Lord Yu and Amaterasu rallied their armies for what would probably be their last stand. Unknown to the System Lords, however, Anubis had survived the battle over Antarctica, and he had returned to secretly rebuild his power base, using Ba'al to lead his forces, although Ba'al did not admit to taking a subservient position to the master he served.
In addition, the System Lords faced the threat of the Jaffa Rebellion which had amassed a significant army as well as growing numbers operating as a Fifth Column within their ranks. The greatest threat of all, however, presented itself when the Replicators, led by Samantha Carter's Replicator duplicate, entered the Milky Way galaxy and launched a full scale attack against the Goa'uld. The Replicators began systematically eliminating the System Lords and absorbing their forces at a rate which would have guaranteed them complete victory within weeks. System Lords, Rebel Jaffa, and Replicators met in a devastating battle at Dakara, but through the cooperation of the Tau'ri and Ba'al, the Dakara superweapon was modified and the Replicators were eliminated. Anubis intended to claim the weapon on Dakara for himself, and to use it to destroy all life in the galaxy in order to repopulate the galaxy to his own specifications. However the intervention of Oma Desala spared the galaxy as she engaged Anubis in eternal battle on another plane of existence.
In eight years, the events of the Tau'ri-Goa'uld war had eliminated Ra, Hathor, Sokar, Heru'ur, Cronus, Apophis, Svarog, Nirrti, Osiris, Moloc, Ares and Ba'al among the System Lords, and Amaunet, Klorel, Marduk, Zipacna, Tanith, Seth, Imhotep, Mot and Sekhmet among the lesser Goa'uld. Following the defeat of Anubis at the hands of Oma Desala and the success of the Jaffa Rebellion, a handful of System Lords remained, but without the support of their Jaffa armies, the Goa'uld had lost most of their power. Among the former System Lords, Ba'al alone survived with his influence nearly intact, and he attempted to rebuild his power base by cloning himself, infiltrating the Trust, expanding his technological advantage, recruiting a Jaffa army, and seeking the knowledge of the Ancients and the Ori.
After the death of the final Ba'al clone in 2008 and the death of the real Ba'al at the hands of Colonel Mitchell in 1939 the hierarchy of the System Lord collective was no more. (Stargate: Continuum) The Goa'uld's power was completely gone until the New Mind faction emerged.
It must be noted, not every Goa'uld is a Systems Lord, but ever Systems Lord is a Goa'uld.

Anubis, an ancient Goa'uld and once a very powerful System Lord, was banished by the other System Lords because of his unspeakable actions. In exile he tricked Oma Desala into helping him to ascend. The Others, however, forced him to a state of half-ascension after they discovered his true nature. Because of his ascended knowledge, Anubis amassed very advanced technologies, gathering strength for his returning to take revenge and to dominate the galaxy. However, when he was just a few steps from accomplishing his goals, Oma Desala attacked him, forcing him to enter a never ending duel.
    Status:Inactive.

Apep was an ancient Unas-hosted Goa'uld System Lord and the physically superior son of Atok. He killed and usurped his father's position among his people 24 thousand years ago. He created a circle of Underlords, which consisted of many of the future System Lords, where nobody would be powerful enough to challenge him or anyone else. Apep eventually grew mad after continuous use of the sarcophagus. With the help of an ancient "superpower" Anubis was able to capture, and kill, Apep and declare himself Emperor. His power would not last, however, as Ra and the other Goa'uld rallied in Apep's name and drove him from power.
It is suspected, though it can not be confirmed, that Apep "may" have formed a new empire, a minion of whom would be the "James ARBOC" that formed COBRA!. If so, he is hiding out in the Venrais Galaxy, a worrisome advent, as no System Lord (nor any Goa'uld state) is known to have used intergalactic travel in such a strategic fashion.
Status: Unknown, but thought to be deceased.
Apophis was once an extremely powerful Goa'uld System Lord. The brother of the Supreme System Lord Ra, he originally commanded a minor fleet, but he grew in strength to command the power of multiple System Lords that had been killed during his reign, ultimately succeeding Ra as the dominant System Lord after his death. He held one human host in his life. His reign ended however, when the Tau'ri and the Tok'Ra together managed to destroy his fleet in the Battle of the Vorash system. Apophis died in the aftermath. The remnants of his empire managed to lay low for decades, when one of his surviving HAT'AK-Class Battleships suddenly appeared over Ba'al's homeworld of P3X-888. Since then, over a dozen more have arrived. Most of these have been transferred to the REF with the armor and weapons of the Jaffa that arrived with them.
    Status: Deceased.
Amaterasu was once a powerful Goa'uld System Lady. Amaterasu visited Stargate Command after Anubis' defeat to negotiate a new arrangement against Ba'al. The war against Ba'al goes poorly, and she and Yu rally their armies for a last stand. Amaterasu was not among the System Lords Ba'al sent a peace offering to, and her fate following the collapse of the Goa'uld Empire was unknown.
Her status changed when she was discovered in the camp of Ba'al, followed by her own surviving Jaffa. She has now joined her cart to him, serving primarily as his chief concubine and advisor. She is also tasked occasionally as "special representative" to the UGC.
Status: Alive (in service to Ba'al).
    Ares
    Ba'al
    Bastet
    Belus
Ares was a Goa'uld System Lord grasping for power during Anubis' reign of terror. After Ba'al declared war on his fellow System Lords, Ares fled to his former planet, where the Tau'ri Harold MAYBOURNE was king. UGC representives went to the planet to warn them that Ares was on his way and to help them evacuate, but they ran into opposition from the indigenous populace. The REF and the Jaffa clashed and the Jaffa was defeated. The final battle against Ares was fought by Brig. Gen. Jack O'NEILL using a shuttle that had been abandoned on the planet and using a carefully aimed missile to penetrate his HA'TAK-Class Battleship defense shield and destroyed the ship, killing Ares.
    Status: Dead.

Ba'al is the last powerful Goa'uld System Lord and the Supreme Commander of the Goa'uld Empire. After the first fall of Anubis, Ba'al took control of Anubis' Kull warriors, making him the dominant Goa'uld in the galaxy. With his new powerful Kull army, he started a war against the other System Lords, driving them to the brink of defeat. The return of Anubis destroyed his plans, however, and the defeat at Dakara destroyed his fleet and army. After the fall of the Goa'uld, Ba'al was the only known surviving System Lord and became determined to rebuild his power base, infiltrating "The Trust" to do so.
Ba'al uses a technology that allows him to clone himself infinitely, and perfectly, allowing him to send his own clones to do his bidding; They are also inter-linked, meaning that each perceives the universe as part of a whole; Much as a normal person's right and left hands can find each other even in pitch dark, ears muffled, behind their back, and with some types of mind-impairing conditions. It is believed they obtained this technology from the Palpatinian Syhith Order, though exactly how is a mystery, since they exist in galaxies far, far way from one another and ONLY the UGC has developed practical inter-galactic travel.
Ba'al's success at survival has forced the UGC to treat with him separately, and he has been granted a state unto himself: See Ba'al.
Bastet: was a member of the Goa'uld System Lords. Bastet did not come to power until the Second Goa'uld Dynasty collapsed. Uniting forces with the System Lord Kali, the two made a treaty with the Goa'uld Sobek. Then, at the celebratory feast, they moved against him. Rumor has it that Sobek's head still decorates Bastet's palace in Bubastis. Bastet, admitting to suffering heavy losses against Anubis, voted to allow the powerful Goa'uld back to his former position as a System Lord. Bastet was later captured when Ba'al gained control of the Kull warriors in 2008 and made a concubine (rather than be executed right then and there).
Belus was a Goa'uld System Lord who served under Ra. After leading a failed invasion of Oannes, he incurred the wrath of its native people, the Ohnes, and was punished for his failure by being sent to oversee Goa'uld forces in Babylon. When an Ohnes team followed him to Earth, they were able to encourage the local populace to rise up against Goa'uld rule, causing him to be further punished by demotion to an underlord of Ishtar, a position he continued to hold after Ra's death. He was later wounded by Kel and so took the Ohnes warrior as a new host, an act which he saw as revenge against the Ohnes.
    Camulus
    Cronus
    Egeria
    Hathor
Camulus was a Goa'uld System Lord, who visits Stargate Command to negotiate a new arrangement against Ba'al. After the talks broke down, Camulus unexpectedly asked for asylum on Earth, revealing to Elizabeth Weir that his armies were one of the first to fall before Ba'al. Camulus later gave General Jack O'Neill the location of a Zero Point Module, but SGC scientists found out that Camulus had tampered with it so that it would explode if ever used. Camulus agreed to take the ZPM to Ba'al in an attempt to assassinate him. However, O'Neill wasn't confident that Ba'al wouldn't discover the sabotage and so he secretly gave Camulus an already depleted ZPM instead. His fate after going into Ba'al's custody was unknown until a UGC representative saw him working in a mine about 20 years later.
Status: Alive and in Ba'al's custody (effectively enslaved).
Cronus was one of the most influential of the System Lords. He was the one who banished Sokar and was the mortal enemy of Apophis. Ronac was Cronus's First Prime; Cronus ordered him to fight an unwinnable battle against a more powerful Goa'uld. After his inevitable defeat, Cronus executed him by crushing his symbiote, causing its blood to mix with his in a slow and painful death. Cronus also accompanied Nirrti and Yu to Earth to negotiate Earth's entry into the Protected Planets Treaty. Two years later, Cronus was killed by an android on the planet Juna. Though these events occurred long before the UGC became aware of the System Lords, the Council took an interest in the events as a matter of course.
    Status: Dead.
Egeria was once a high ranking System Lord. She felt it was wrong to take the Tau'ri as hosts and, as she was a Queen, she gave birth to the Tok'Ra who rebelled against the Supreme System Lord Ra 2,000 years ago. When Ra heard of her act, he took immediate action. She was imprisoned by Ra on the planet Pangar until the Pangarans, who used her progeny to produce tretonin. Egeria sabotaged her offspring in the hopes of stopping the Pangarans, which led to a medical crisis after tretonin became widely used. After she was discovered by SG-1, the Tok'Ra Kelmaa gave up her life so that her host can blend with Egeria. As her last act, Egeria gave the Pangarans the information needed to cure their people.
    Status: Dead (considered Honored Dead).

Hathor was once a System Lady, the Queen of Ra and mother of Heru'ur. After the Tau'ri rebellion she was imprisoned in a sarcophagus. After being freed by archaeologists, she traveled to Stargate Command and tried to take over the base. She was eventually defeated, and escaped through the Stargate. Hathor built a new army by brainwashing Jaffa. She tried to extract information from her enemies, but when this failed, she implanted a symbiote into Jack O'NEILL, but he was saved by a Tok'Ra. Hathor's base was eventually assaulted by the rebel Jaffa led by Teal'c, Bra'tac, and General George HAMMOND. Hathor was thought to have been killed when O'NEILL threw her unprotected into a cryogenic chamber, but the chamber was defective, and she simply froze for several days, until Morrigan "rescued" her, only to treat her as a slave; Morrigan was in turn defeated by Olokun, who treated BOTH very poorly, until his defeat by the UGC. Hathor and Morrigan then sought refuge with Ba'al, who offered them sanctuary- In exchange they surrender themselves as concubines to him.
Status: Concubine to Ba'al (de facto slavery).
    Heru'ur
    Ishkur
    Isis
    Kali
Son of Ra and Hathor, Heru'ur was once a powerful System Lord, the son of Ra and Hathor. Heru'ur invaded Cimmeria after discovering Thor's Hammer, an Asgard anti-Goa'uld device. The REF and Gairwyn contacted Thor, who arrived in his mothership and removed Heru'ur's armies and ships, forcing Heru'ur to retreat through the Stargate. He traveled to Abydos to seize Amaunet, but was defeated there by SG-1 and again forced to escape. Heru'ur eventually planned an alliance with Apophis; the Tok'Ra and REF sabotaged their meeting in the Tobin minefield hoping to incite a war, not expecting that Apophis has brought a fleet of cloaked motherships with him. Apophis destroys Heru'ur's ship and absorbed his forces. Heru'ur himself escaped, but was captured not long after by the Patrol, who handed him over to the GMP who have interred him at J'Hann Station with the part of his forces that were taken alive.
Status: In custody of the GMP.

Ishkur was an ancient Goa'uld System Lord who was alive five millenia ago, though his current status is unknown. He had an army of Jaffa warriors but many, as they rose through his ranks, soon discovered that he was not the god he claimed to be. Ishkur branded these Jaffa traitors and ordered them to be killed. The Jaffa tried to fight against him, but were overpowered by sheer numbers and so instead a small group set off to find the legendary planet Kheb. Although they did not find it, they instead settled on a world the Tau'ricame to designate P9G-844 and called themselves the Sodan. It is unknown what has happened to Ishkur since the rebellion of the Sodan, but it's possible that he at some point has been killed or stripped of his power. This is generally considered unlikely, however, and the UGC assumes he's alive, well, and building an army to threaten the Pax Galatica. That he's had hundreds of years and hasn't taken action is irrelevant; It's currently believed most likely that he's in the process of building up the size of forces he wants.
    Status: Unknown.
Isis was an ancient System Lady. Isis' symbiote was found in a canopic jar that was among the Egyptian treasures from the ill-fated Stewart Expedition. Further examination of the canopic jar revealed that it was designed to function as a stasis chamber, imprisoning the symbiote presumably by Seth (according to the Egyptian legend). The seal was broken, and Isis immediately took possession of a nurse standing nearby, whereupon "Isis" fled. Once she re-joined the system Lords, and learning the direction the universe was taking, offered herself to Ba'al, who rejected her, then to Morrigan, who accepted her as a concubine and advisor. Isis was eventually taken by Ba'al, but then traded her to the UGC as part of the treaty that gave him his freedom. (Osiris had already agreed to surrender as a Tok'Ra, on the condition that the UGC 'aquire' his wife Isis.)
Status: Alive and living with Osiris.
Kali was a System Lord who attended the Goa'uld Summit. Disguised as Lord Yu's Lo'tar, Daniel Jackson speaks of Kali and Bastet's having made a treaty with the fellow System Lord Sobek, only to move against him during the celebratory feast when Sobek let his guard down. Kali is among the majority who voted to allow Anubis back amongst the System Lords, even though he attacked one of her outposts on the planet Cerador. After her forces were broken at the Battle of Point Cederic, she offered herself first to one, then another System Lord. As each either rejected her or were defeated, she moved on to another, eventually ending up with Ba'al who treated her no better than the rest of his "bitches."
    Status: Concubine to Ba'al.
    Kur
    Marduk
    Moloc
    Morrigan
Kur was a System Lord who never rose to prominence on Earth, though many knew and feared him. He was one of the few System Lords who truly accepted his subject's image of him, and was intimidating and imposing even whilst dealing with his own Jaffa, ruling through violence and fear alone.
    Status: Unknown.
Marduk was a System Lord so evil that his own priests rose up against him and imprisoned him in a sarcophagus with a flesh-eating creature that would prolong his suffering. However, Marduk survived by possessing the creature and was released. He possessed Major Sergei VALLARIN and tried to escape, but was buried when Jack O'NEILL sets off C-4 explosives inside his ziggurat. Marduk possessed the Eye of Tiamat, a powerful weapon.
    Status: Dead.
Moloc was a powerful System Lord. In 1973, Moloc had decreed that only male children would be allowed to live, as only they could strengthen his armies, and no female children were allowed to live. Ishta and the women Jaffa of the Hak'tyl secretly saved the female infants and raised them as warriors. The Hak'tyl also allied with the Rebel Jaffa on Moloc's worlds which were preparing for war against Moloc. A summit of Rebel leaders was ambushed by Moloc. Ishta was captured and tortured for information. Meanwhile, on Goronak, an uprising began as an army of 2000 Rebels marched on Moloc's temple. As Moloc prepared to crush the rebellion, the Tau'ri sent laser guided missiles supplied by the REF which targeted Moloc himself. There wasn't even enough of his body to make an identification in the easy ways, but DNA proved it was him, and he was DEAD.
Status: Dead and not even missed.
Morrigan was a Goa'uld System Lady and Queen. Morrigan once had dominion over P3X-289. Historical records on the planet refer to the Morrigan's castle as the Temple of Mahg Mar, believed to have been of ritual significance in the worship of Morrigan. As a System Lady, Morrigan had a reputation for manipulation. Her servants were known to draw out strategic information in seemingly idle conversation. As one of the System Lords to attend the summit meeting in the Hassara System, Morrigan voted to allow Anubis's return to the rank of System Lord. After Hathor's imprisonment in a defective sarcophagus, Morrigan "rescued" her, making her a concubine; However, Morrigan was later defeated by Olokun, who began abusing Morrigan (and Hathor). With Olokun's defeat, she and Hathor and Morrigan fled to Ba'al, who made them his concubines.
    Status: Concubine to Ba'al.
    Nirrti
    Olokun
    Osiris
    Ra
Nirrti seemed obsessed with creating enhanced humans (Hok'tar) which could serve as hosts. She tried many various experiments and eventually came quite close to her goal. Before she could perfect her experiments, however, she was banished from the System Lords for hoarding new technology and attacking Cronus. She was badly injured one of her research subjects when the subject learned that Nirrti had killed his entire village. After this, she defected to the UGC, but when they found out about her experiments they locked her up in J'Hann Station until they could hide the fact that they'd transferred her to a minor retirement colony, since they did want the information she'd developed as a result of her activities.
Status: Alive, in the custody of the UGC's Witness Protection Program. Works as a topless dancer and nurse.
Not many details are known about the activities of Olokun. He may have had some connection with the Goa'uld Belus and the Ohnes. When Ba'al began his campaign to dominate the other System Lords, Olokun sided with him, taking Morrigan and other System Lords and their assets; He was killed when he tried to launch a takeover of the UGC itself with a frontal assault on President's Point Anchorage. Upon his defeat, most of his surviving forces linked up with Ba'al.
Once a powerful System Lord among the Goa'uld, Osiris and his Queen Isis were betrayed by his brother Setesh. They were removed from their hosts and placed in stasis jars for thousands of years. Osiris was eventually awoken when Sarah Gardner opened the jar, who wanted to be his host. Taking advantage of the "favorable conditions" following the deaths of Apophis and Cronus, Osiris built up quite a powerful army. Despite this, he was not able to return to the rank of System Lord, instead becoming a prominent underlord of Anubis. He was eventually captured and his host was freed. Osiris agreed to surrender to the UGC on the condition they 'acquire' his wife, Isis, whom the UGC determined was being held as a concubine by Ba'al.
Osiris and Isis later were forced to take new hosts; Unfortunately, both were males.
The couple awaits the day they will occupy different sexes, so they can resume a normal marriage.
Status: Protective Custody in the UGC; Forced by circumstances to engage in a homosexual relationship.
Ra was the the first System Lord to discover the Tau'ri. His mate was Hathor, by whom he had a son, Heru'ur, and his brother was Apophis. Ra was the most powerful of the System Lords. Despite the animosity System Lords feel for each other, Ra was recognized as the Supreme System Lord of the Goa'uld Empire, a title which made him nominal Emperor of the Goa'uld. Ra was finally killed by Colonel Jack O'NEILL and Doctor Daniel JACKSON who ringed an enhanced nuclear warhead onboard his ship after the Abydonians rebelled and he was forced from the planet.
    Status: Dead.
    Sokar
    Svarog
    Yu-huang Shang Ti
    Blank.
Sokar was a powerful System Lord well known for his cruel and sadistic nature. For a time, Sokar was ruler of the Goa'uld, until an alliance consisting of several other System Lords, including Ra, Apophis, and Cronus, banded together to defeat Sokar. He was believed destroyed, but somehow survived. In 1999, he made his presence known again among the System Lords, but he soon met his end when his ship was caught in the explosion of the planet Netu.
Little is known about the System Lord Svarog. He was present, though not very vocal during the System lord summit discussing Anubis. He later attempted to conquer Latona but was stopped by the REF.
Yu-huang Shang Ti, or Yu was one of the oldest Goa'uld System Lords. He was part of the delegation that negotiated Earth's entry into the Asgard's Protected Planets Treaty, along with Cronus and Nirrti. He partially favored the treaty, as his interests no longer resided in that area of the Milky Way. His was the sole vote against allowing Anubis to return to the ranks of the System Lords. In the final years of his life, he began to suffer a loss of memory due to his extreme old age. He was killed during the UGC-System Lords War.
    This Space Currently Blank.
    The Survivors.
There weren't a lot of survivors of the System Lords; Ba'al, for reasons all his own, took Amaterasu, Hathor, Kali, and Morrigan "into his protection" and took "custody" of Camulus, and very little is said about it by the UGC.
"Are you joking? It's painfully obvious why Ba'al took them. As long as they're alive and under his control their forces are his. They're his de facto slaves now."
"And the problem for us here is?"
"Oh I didn't say there's a problem. Or at least it's not our problem. We've got a good handle on Ba'al,he's not going to try anything with us. And
if he's abusing them well... I mean, you're asking me to cry because a mugger is abusing a serial killer that's not gonna happen today."
"You realize Ba'al took the women for... You kno..."

"Good for him. We both know what kind of people they are. I'll cry for victims. Anyways, they're with him of their own accord. You can't rape the willing and eager."
"Daniel, I... this is really shocking coming from you."
"I feel the same way. Maybe I should go see a professional about this."
"I can recommend someone. I worked with him after my son died."
    - Jack O'NEIL and Daniel JACKSON discussing the end of the System Lords.
Of the rest not much is known until a body is produced. However, whatever power they had, it's gone now. The threat they once posed is gone, and no one is sad to see them gone.

    "We are not Goa'uld."
    - Garshaw
The Tok'Ra are a group of symbiotes who object to the ways of the Goa'uld and morespecifically, the System Lords, deriving their name from the Goa'uld words "tok", meaning "against" and the name of the Supreme System Lord, the deceased Ra who was killed by Jack O'Neill and Daniel Jackson on Abydos. Unlike the Goa'uld, the symbiotes only take volunteer hosts, often those who are sick or injured, and do not suppress their minds, allowing both entities full consciousness and control over the same body.
    History
    Creation
"There is an old legend among the Jaffa forbidden to speak of concerning
a group of Goa'uld who opposed the ways of the System Lords."
    Teal'c
The Tok'Ra were first spawned by Egeria, a Goa'uld Queen and former mate of Ra. She had come to conclude that the Goa'uld Empire was too morally objectionable to continue, and mothered the Tok'Ra with her mental imprint of compassion, and a belief that they should only take willing hosts. She would mother several broods of her children to take the fight against the Goa'uld. In a final act of spite, the group was named the "Tok'Ra" which meant "against Ra."
Ra would later contract the Ashrak with hunting the rogue queen down which they managed to accomplish. They would remove the symbiote from her host and ensured that the Tok'Ras numbers would never increase to such magnitudes again. This would be a traumatic time to the movement whose loss of their queen would impede on their organization. Dozens of Tok'Ra symbiotes would be captured and killed by the Goa'uld and almost spelt the end of their kind. Luckily, the eldest brood of Egeria led their kind into hiding where they managed to survive.
After taking stock over their situation, the Tok'Ra realized they were unable to acquire military forces sufficient to counter the System Lords and thus they adopted strategies of subterfuge.
Sworn Enemies of the System Lords
"I learned a lot from Jolinar. Enough to
know that we could be good friends."
    - Major Samantha Carter
Eventually, the Tok'Ra came into contact with the people of the Tau'ri when Jolinar of Malkshur, fleeing from an Ashrak sent by Cronus, took Samantha Carter as a host in order to survive. However, despite her best attempts, she was eventually killed by the assassin but not before ensuring that her host would survive. Elements of the genetic memory remained within Carter.
Through those memories, she managed to locate the Tok'Ra encampment which intiated first contact between the two races. The Tok'Ra were skeptical about the humans of the Tau'ri; Garshaw was even angered when she learned that Apophis' motherships around Earth were destroyed by SG-1 which resulted in the death of several of their agents, but forgave them when she learned it was in defense of their planet. The Tok'Ra were also grateful when they learned that Colonel O'Neill and Daniel Jackson were the ones that killed their mortal enemy Ra. In addition to this, some believed that the humans were too reckless and independent for the Tok'Ra liking. At the time, the Tok'Ra believed that the only way an alliance could have been formed was if the Tau'ri were willing to supply the Tok'Ra with willing hosts which resulted in tensions. They refused to allow the humans to return to their world until they evacuated as two of Cronus's motherships were converging on the planet but after they helped reveal that Cordesh was a traitor, they accepted the Tau'ri aid. Furthermore, Selmak was given a willing host in the form of Jacob Carter which brought an official alliance between the two races.
The Tok'Ra eventually sent Jacob Carter/Selmak to Delmak to investigate Sokar's plans, but after he was captured and imprisoned on Netu, the Tok'Ra turned to the Tau'ri for help, needing Samantha Carter's memories from Jolinar to figure out how to rescue him. Jacob was able to give his intellegence about Sokar's vast fleet and plans and the Tok'Ra dispatched Aldwin in a Tel'tak with Teal'c to kill Sokar by destroying Netu while Sokar's ship was in orbit. Teal'c managed to rescue SG-1, Martouf and Jacob while Netu exploded, killing Sokar in one of the few times the Tok'Ra directly attacked a System Lord. Unfortunatly, this left Apophis in position to take over from Sokar, which he did.
After learning of a proposed alliance between Heru'ur and Apophis, the Tok'Ra sent Jacob Carter along with SG-1 to sabotage the alliance and create a war between the two powerful System Lords that would decimate both sides using a mine to trick Apophis into thinking that Heru'ur attacked him. Unfortunatly the Tok'Ra didn't anticipate Apophis bringing a cloaked fleet into the minefield which he used to shield him as he destroyed Heru'ur's Ha'tak, killing Heru'ur and leaving Apophis in control of Heru'ur's great forces as well as the forces of Sokar.
The Tok'Ra devised a plan to use a captured Ha'tak taken by SG-1 from the recently deceased Cronus to destroy Apophis' fleet. They made use of filtered misinformation given to the Goa'uld spy in their ranks to bring Apophis' fleet to a system where they dropped a Stargate dialed to a planet with a black hole into the planetary star. This caused a chain reaction bringing about an explosion that destroyed most of Apophis' fleet but propelled both his mothership and SG-1's Ha'tak four million light-years away where they were attacked by replicators. After the Replicators flew the ship to Delmak, SG-1 caused it to crash into the planet, killing Apophis once and for all.
The race was almost destroyed when Anubis ordered his Underlord Zipacna to attack the Tok'Ra base at Revanna. The resulting battle resulted in many Tok'Ra deaths but they managed to survive to a degree. They fled to the Alpha Site where they took shelter with members of the Jaffa Rebellion though hostilities almost erupted due to a cloaked Ashrak assassin in the base. Eventually, relations with the Tau'ri broke down when Anubis discovered the Tau'ri Alpha Site and sent his newly developed Kull warriors to the settlement. During the course of the investigation, the Tau'ri demanded that the Tok'Ra reveal where their agents were placed. However, the Tok'Ra refused and felt that the humans jeopardized them which forced the Tok'Ra to sever ties at the time. In addition, there were many in the high council who questioned Selmak's loyalties.
Despite spending a year trying to fix things between the Tok'Ra and the Tau'ri, Jacob failed as he was still distrusted by the Tok'Ra so he acted on his own, stealing a piece of technology tracking Ba'al's ships and going to Earth. There he aided in the final destruction of the Replicators and the fall of the Goa'uld, but as a result of Selmak's advanced age, soon began dying. Several Tok'Ra chose to visit him as he and Selmak died soon after Anubis finally fell thanks to the efforts of Doctor Daniel Jackson and Oma Desala.
    Later years
After the fall of the System Lords, there was little activity on the part of the Tok'Ra. The rising threat of the Ori did mean that they used their intelligence network to aid the Tau'ri and the Free Jaffa Nation to monitor the galaxy for newly formed black holes that indicated the presence of a Supergate.
The Tau'ri called upon the Tok'Ra's aid in the removal of the cloned symbiote of the System Lord Ba'al that had infested Adria's body. The Tok'Ra Ta'seem and his aides were successful in the operation and managed to remove the symbiote, but it released a deadly neurotoxin, forcing Adria to ascend.
After the Ori crusade ended, the final clone of Ba'al was captured and was escorted to the Tok'Ra homeworld where the Extraction Ceremony was performed on the Goa'uld, thus ending the reign of the last of the System Lords.
    Society
"Goa'uld take hosts. The Tok'Ra do not. Ours wish to be so."
    - Garshaw
The Tok'Ra are similar to the Goa'uld and are in fact the same species. However, where the Goa'uld forcibly take over hosts and lord over their subjects as gods, the Tok'Ra pridefully state that they do not take hosts. Instead, their hosts willingly chose to be with a proper symbiosis maintained between both symbiote and host. They strongly believed that the host had the right over control over their bodies and find those of their kind that attempt to forcibly take control over them disgusting. While this is true usually it's the symbiote personalty that is the dominate one in the symbiote-host relationship. When speaking, the Tok'Ra make use of their symbiote voice to show that the symbiote itself was speaking while the normal voice indicated the host was talking.
When the symbiote takes on a new host body, the process is done only with the host's consent and done so through the mouth as Tok'Ra find the entry mark to be unsightly.
The Tok'Ra consists of hundreds of symbiotes who were all devoted to the fall of the Goa'uld Empire. However, among them, there were several different generations of Goa'uld broods. The eldest of which are few in number after succumbing to old age and natural deaths. These older symbiotes, such as Selmak, were respected, loved, admired and revered by the younger Tok'Ra.
Furthermore, the lack of a queen sympathetic to their cause means that the Tok'Ra suffer from zero to negative population growth and the loss of any one of their number is a staggering blow. There were the rare few occasions where defecting Goa'uld would be accepted into their ranks who would be the most infamous of the movement. These rebel Goa'uld would gain a title based on the battle where they revealed their betrayal.
The Tok'Ra believed that their greatest weapon against the Goa'uld was their secrecy. At the time, they believed that anything that was not beneficial to them did not warrant a breach in their security procedures. The only thing beneficial to them in forms of an alliance were either hosts or advanced technology. This made them quite practical in their way of thinking, if somewhat callous.
Many of the Tok'Ra had a degree of hostility towards the Jaffa whether they were free or loyal to their masters. This was because every Tok'Ra symbiote that died at the hands of the Goa'uld had a Jaffa being responsible for the task. This meant that there were no Jaffa within the ranks of the Tok'Ra. They also viewed the Tau'ri as a potentially dangerous element due to their independence and seemingly reckless attacks on the Goa'uld, as well as pursuit of technologies believed to be beyond their understanding. This attitude was encouraged by the sharp increase in Tok'Ra fatalities following the entrance of the Tau'ri into the conflict. Selmak was eventually viewed with mistrust for taking a Tau'ri host, as the rest of the Council felt that Jacob had dominated their relationship and thus held more loyalty to the Tau'ri.
The greatest level of hatred was reserved for the Goa'uld themselves and the Tok'Ra show little sympathy over the exploitation of their symbiotes as they believe that the Goa'uld have done much worse to humans over the centuries.
A noted ritual among their kind was the burial of their dead which involved them being placed in a pyre raised to the level of a Stargate. Once there, they say the relevant words about the recently deceased after which the Stargate was activated, causing an unstable vortex, which destroys the remains to prevent their capture and revival by the Goa'uld.
One of the key aspects of the Tok'Ra culture are the Extraction Ceremonies in which a Goa'uld System Lord is captured and faces the extraction of the symbiote itself. This starts with the captured Goa'uld in stasis while the Tok'Ra leaders recite (in their own language) a list of crimes the accused had committed. Depending on the Goa'uld in question, this ceremony can last up to three hours. Once complete, the Goa'uld is released from stasis and allowed their final words, after which they are placed in the symbiote extractor. The symbiote is then removed from the host body and placed in a cylinder where upon a leader of the Tok'Ra shatters it on the floor as everyone watches the Goa'uld wither and die without a host. The host may survive the extraction.
The race is governed by the Tok'Ra High Council with their leader holding the position of Supreme High Councilor. Its membership is unknown but its decisions are binding on the rest of their people.
    Technology
The Tok'Ra have developed several technologies, many of which are based off Goa'uld design, and others that have been created in conjunction with the Tau'ri. Tok'Ra technology is based primarily around the use of naquadah, a substance that the Tok'Ra secrete into the bloodstream of their hosts. Naquadah is also used as a sort of interface initializer to interact with their most valuable technology, such as the hand device and healing device, similar to the Ancient Technology Activation Gene.
    Anti-UGC Sentiments
Despite their alliance to the UGC, the Tok'Ra have NOT joined the UGC; They like their independence, and wish to maintain it.
For their own part, the UGC is happy to allow the Tok'Ra their independence; The 100 or so Tok'Ra factions have settled only a half-dozen systems, and in almost every case several factions have settled the same planet; The only factions that have a body entirely to themselves have settled moons and asteroids. Each factions has at least a few HAT'AK-Class Battleships and their attendant craft, each flagged to the faction that owns it; For example, the Shi'rina's HAT'AK, SHI'RINA HAVRIOK, is baby blue wwith black trim and highlights- To "Make the enemy black and blue." (It's funny in the Tok'Ra's own language.)
The Tok'Ra have sworn never to raise arms against the UGC except in self-defense, and the UGC has left the Tok'Ra be for the most part; A Babylon-Class Governatorial Station has been parked in the effected systems, and some minor trade exists between the UGC and the Tok'Ra factions, but for the most part the UGC leaves them alone.

-The correct translation of the word "Hak'tyl."
The Hak'tyl Resistance was a group of female Jaffa who belonged to Moloc. When Moloc decreed that only male Jaffa would survive, Ishta, one of Moloc's high priestesses, organized an underground movement to spirit infant girls to Hak'tyl. After learning of SG-1, they approached the Tau'ri, seeking an alliance. Samantha Carter offered them Tretonin as a way of being free of the Goa'uld symbiotes. Though it was difficult at first, the Hak'tyl were convinced to take the tretonin.
During the conquests of Ba'al, the Hak'tyl organized a group of at least 2,000 Jaffa (both male and female) to rebel against Moloc. Teal'c and Bra'tac urged caution, saying that killing Moloc would ultimately do nothing in the long run. However, when a meeting of the rebels was ambushed by Moloc, the SGC killed him in a missile strike. The Hak'tyl then allied their numbers with the Jaffa Rebellion, but Moloc's forces were absorbed by Ba'al.
With the collapse of the Goa'uld Empire and the emergence of the Free Jaffa Nation, the Hak'tyl have emerged as a force in the politics of the Jaffa High Council; They were offered a seat in the council due to their military strength, but refuse this because they would not be able to freely associate with the Tau'ri without the Council's blessings. They do remain friendly to the Free Jaffa Nation, however, and usually ally with the progressives such Teal'c and Bra'tac in the support of establishing a democracy (despite the fact it could weaken their political powers) against the Traditionalists lead by Gerak.
Position Towards the Tau'ri (UGC) and Tok'Ra.
The Hak'tyl have publicly stated they wish to remain on friendly terms with the Tau'ri and the Tok'Ra; Moreso the Tok'Ra, however, since the Tok'Ra have the firepower to offer militry protection, progressive thinking to treat women as equals, and are much closer than a UGC Spacy Battlefleet (regardless the size). However, they have offered the Tau'ri permanent space on Hak'tyl III for a consulate (an offer which was accepted).
Position Towards The Free Jaffa Nation.
The Hak'tyl were at one point members of the Free Jaffa Nation, but withdrew from the collective after the Nation refused to assist them in developing their homeworld. Relations between the Hak'tyl and Free Jaffa is not openly hostile, but has cooled much over time.
    Control Worlds.
The Hak'tyl started on Hak'tyl; However, when Moloc learned of its location, they were forced to abandon this world. Hak'tyl II was safe for a while, but Moloc found this world as well, and they fled to a new world, Hak'tyl III. Hak'tyl III is cold (an artic world), but with Tok'Ra and Tau'ri help has been build into a fairly nice world; Geothermal powerplants bring power to keep buildings warm, and the roofs of most buildings are semi-transparent to allow light in. The women can go outside, but only with coats on for safety (you will die in as little as 4 hours unprotected). The planet is bright weather permitting.
Exports: Some mineral exports, but the Hak'tyl mainly survive by the support of patrons. Fortunately, their close ties to the Tok'Ra (with their enlightened views on women) and Tau'ri gives them a lot of support. The Tau'ri have also given them some industrial and militry equipment and several lucrative militry and paramilitry contracts have brought them much-needed money to survive.
    Membership.
Due to the nature of Jaffa society, membership is limited; Most members are outcasts of another faction, women who have run away from their fathers or husbands or who's husband has died without sons to take them. Males are not allowed on Hak'tyl unless under escort from a member of the Hak'tyl- Not even Tok'Ra or Tau'ri.
    Militry Power.
The Hak'tyl have a limited militry, but an effective one:
    20 HA'TAK-Class Battleships;
    852 Al'kesh-Class Multi-Purpose Ships;
    1,225 Tel'tak-Class Shuttles;
    2 ORI-Class Warships;
    9,111 Udajeet Fighters;
    2.5 millions warriors (with full kits);
An unspecified number of Goa'uld Sarcophagi (believed to number 200).

"We are attempting to build a whole new system of government that will span Jaffa worlds throughout the galaxy."
    - Teal'c
The Free Jaffa Nation is a government formed by independent Jaffa after the downfall of the Goa'uld.
    History
Following the victory at Dakara in which both the System Lords and the Replicators were defeated, the Rebel Jaffa were united as never before, and they set about the task of building a new Jaffa Nation. The holy ground of Dakara became the new homeworld for free Jaffa, and there a great city was erected. From their new homeworld they planned to expand outward into the galaxy.
The new nation immediately became a major power, inheriting a great part of the fleets of the System Lords, partially filling the power vacuum left by their defeat. In an elaborate ceremony marking the official founding of the Jaffa Nation, Teal'c and Bra'tac, who were major figures in the freeing of Jaffa, were knighted Blood Kin to all Jaffa, the highest honor that can be bestowed on any Jaffa.
The new nation would be presided over by a High Council, on which both Teal'c and Bra'tac served as interim members, but the struggle to build a whole new system of government that would span Jaffa worlds throughout the galaxy was a difficult one. Many Jaffa were still steeped in an old culture full of antiquated rituals and were slow to accept change. Major Paul Davis and SG-9 from Stargate Command of Earth attempted to offer guidance, but many Jaffa viewed the Tau'ri with mistrust and considered the proposed system of government to be a means to control and subvert their newly acquired freedom. Teal'c attempted to be a voice of reason, but his allegiance to the Tau'ri did not serve him well in winning votes from the most traditional of the Jaffa electorate.
Eventually Gerak emerged as a new leader, and his proposed system of government based on military assets found favor among many Jaffa. Teal'c and Bra'tac saw Gerak's rise to power as the corruption of a few power hungry individuals, and they attempted to negotiate with regional coalitions that had yet to declare their allegiance. Nevertheless, a quick vote was taken, and Gerak's motion was resolved by a slim majority. The Jaffa Nation would be ruled by a High Council, the votes of which would be attributed to the various coalition representatives based on military assets. As the representative with the greatest military power, Gerak became the new leader of the Jaffa Nation.
Although Gerak accepted an invitation to the SGC to discuss a treaty with Earth, he dismissed the claims of Teal'c, Bra'tac and Ka'lel that the Tau'ri and the Tok'Ra had been instrumental in securing the freedom of the Jaffa and should be considered as allies. He resisted any attempt at an alliance, and instead he began steering the Council into distrusting Teal'c for his loyalty to the Tau'ri. Ba'al had been hiding out on Earth, and Gerak secretly sent a contingent of warriors to Earth to search for him. By capturing and executing Ba'al's clone, he won the hearts of the Council, claiming a big moral victory and reaping the huge political gain that would guarantee him the support of the undecided Jaffa and assure him undisputed influence over the Council.
The United Tau'ri-Jaffa Fleet Over Kallana.
With the arrival of the Ori, things began to become difficult for the Jaffa Nation. The nation was initially committed to resisting the spread of Origin and its attendant Priors; most Jaffa were horrified at the idea of worshiping gods once more, as the resistance of the Jaffa of Kallana showed.
However, Gerak was converted to Origin and as a result the Ori gained a powerful ally in the form of the Jaffa loyal to them. Gerak used his authority next to bring the Jaffa to Origin, and he proposed to the High Council that the religion of the Ori be adopted by all Jaffa as law. His arguments swayed many, especially the older members of the Council who sought a quick path to ascension. Despite warnings from Teal'c and Bra'tac about the true intentions of the Ori, the Council began to lean toward accepting the proposal, and as Gerak was transformed into a Prior, he was ordered to bring the Jaffa Nation to Origin. The decision nearly brought the fledgling nation to civil war as Bra'tac, Teal'c, and their followers prepared to make a stand against Gerak at Chulak. However, Teal'c dissuaded Gerak from the path he had chosen, and Gerak agreed to come to Earth, where he cured the Ori plague that had stricken thousands, before vanishing in flames.
The Jaffa Nation was left without a leader, and the Council considered a new proposal for a move toward democracy. Strongly in favor of restructuring the government, Bra'tac and Teal'c proposed a referendum to allow all Jaffa to vote for the dissolution of the High Council. The motion to dissolve the Council in favor of elected officials spawned strong opposition from those who had reaped the benefits under the current regime and feared losing their status should a vote for democracy pass. The vote was further hampered by shifting allegiances as Ba'al brainwashed key members of the Council, including U'kin, Maz'rai, and Ka'lel, in order to control the Jaffa Nation himself.
Nevertheless, when the vote was taken, the referendum passed, marking the beginning of democracy for the Jaffa Nation. For the first time in their history, leaders would be voted upon by every free Jaffa.
The Allied Fleet Assembles After Locating The Ori Supergate.
    Ori Motherships Over Chulak.
    The Weapon Is Destroyed.
Arrangements were made to hold the first general elections in two months' time, and in the meantime the government was placed in the hands of an Interim Council. The Interim Council cooperated with the SGC in locating and attempting to destroy the Supergate, and several Jaffa Ha'tak vessels participated in the battle at the supergate as Ori warships entered the galaxy.
The Jaffa suffered greatly against the followers of the Ori, which had invaded the galaxy, with their ships being almost completely ineffective at stopping the recently arrived Ori warships. One of the first Jaffa worlds to fall to the Ori was Teal'c's home planet of Chulak.
Faced with the Ori threat, Se'tak, the new Jaffa leader, convinced the Council that their only hope for survival against the armies of the Ori was to use the Ancient weapon on Dakara. Using the device to unmake living beings, Se'tak ordered the attack on several worlds that had fallen to the Ori, and he rejected Major General Henry Landry's insistence that the war with the Ori was not justification for incidental genocide. His strategy was the downfall of his nation, however, for as he fired the weapon at Adria's ship, she launched a counterstrike which left Dakara and its weapon in ruins. The only survivors were SG-1 who were beamed off Adria's ship by the Odyssey and Landry and Bra'tac who escaped through Dakara's Stargate as it was destroyed.
For generations the Jaffa had plotted and fought for emancipation but never planned for what they would do with freedom after it was won. The resulting infighting and weakness after the victory over the Goa'uld led the Jaffa to vulnerability at the hands of the Ori. Without Dakara to unite them, the fractured Jaffa Nation was in disarray, and many reverted back to old warring factions.
After the fall of Dakara, several Jaffa worlds had willingly fallen into the hand of the Ori crusaders though small resistance movements still existed that gained intelligence on these enemies. Some groups, such as the Illac Renin, became devoted to the path the Ori showed them though many resisted it. In order to help stabilize the leadership of the Jaffa, a peaceful summit was called on the Jaffa world of Dar Eshkalon, but a deceptive strike killed 32 and wounded 12 of the attendees. It was revealed that this was done by radical Jaffa who followed the Ori and were led by a former First Prime known as Arkad who wished to steer the Jaffa's destiny into the hands of the Ori. Furthermore, to gain the favor of his new masters, he attempted to stockpile weapons grade Naquadah to use against the Tau'ri but he was killed by Teal'c before he could accomplish this. Once again the Jaffa factions were scattered, leaving the Jaffa Nation to begin rebuilding once more.
After the final defeat of the Ori at the hands of the Tau'ri, the Jaffa continue to rebuild and enjoy their freedom, and had done so managed to rebuild by the time of Ba'al's Flight and guarded the Tok'Ra homeworld with half their fleet in order to protect it from enemy attacks during that time, indicating that the renewed nation has formed ties with the Tok'Ra.
    Position Towards The UGC
Each faction of the Jaffa Free Nation is technically free to join the UGC or not, and most have done so; However, they maintain their ties to the "nation" separately, and the Nation itself has refused to join the UGC. Galactics ambassadors are continuing to woo the High Council, and it is believed that within a decade the last factions will come into the fold.
    Government
    Jaffa High Council
The Jaffa High Council is the ruling body of the Free Jaffa Nation. Votes were appropriated on the Council based on unconfirmed militry assets of the various coalitions represented. Many of the councilors are the former leaders of the Jaffa Rebellion. The Jaffa High Council was divided between Traditionalists, favoring old-style oligarchy (in which power effectively rests with those of militry background and/or support), and Progressives, favoring some form of republic. The Traditionalist faction was led by Gerak and Yat'Yir, both former servants of Montu. It has revealed that the former followers of the System Lord Yu tend to be traditionalists. In the end, a compromise solution was found.
    Some known councilors include:
  • Bra'tac- Leader of the Progressive opposition.
  • Cha'ra was a member of the anti-Origin party after Gerak's conversion.
  • Gerak (Deceased)- Former Head of the Council and of the ruling Traditionalist faction.
  • Ka'lel- a Hak'tyl who appears to be moderately Progressive.
  • Maz'rai (Deceased)- a former Apophis servant, native of Chulak, and a progressive who committed suicide by symbiote removal to undo Ba'al's brainwashing.
  • Rak'nor is a former leader of the Jaffa Rebellion and now serves as Teal'c's proxy on the Jaffa High Council.
  • Se'tak (Deceased)- a Jaffa leader who came into power after Geraks death, he advocated a more harsh policy of dealing with the Ori through the use of the Dakara device. He was hostile towards the Tau'ri believing that the Jaffa should remain independent and free from alien influence. He was killed when Adria's battlecruiser targeted the Dakara superweapon and destroyed it.
  • Teal'c- Former leader of the Progressive opposition.

    -Martouf, A Tok'Ra.
The Goa'uld use a device called a sarcophagus to rapidly heal injuries and extend their lifespans. The device can also bring the recently deceased back to life.
    Overview
The Goa'uld Sarcophagus is a device to repair the bodies of Goa'uld hosts and the symbiote within them after I injury, infection, and old age. Very similar in concept to the UGC's own CA-106 "Hos-Box" Cyclone Medical Sidecar and MOT-4 Medical Observation Table (with the appropriate attachments), but much more powerful; It can even reverse the effects of aging (though not indefinitely). Using a Sarcophagus often can became addictive, demonstrating symptoms common to the System Lords who regularly use them, including paranoia, egotism, and megalomania. Recovery from the side effects takes time away from the devices.
    Function
A sarcophagus is based on a much more ancient healing technology and can heal all illness and damage done to the body, but not extensive brain damage. Using it very occasionally produces no ill effects. However regular use produces psychological effects including megalomania and intense notions of superiority, paranoia, and etc. Because of this, the Tok'Ra will only use it to the most basic limits, to rebuild a debilitating injury (loss of a limb, severed spinal column, etc.), but not to treat anything else- Not even life-threatening illness. The Tok'Ra recognized long ago the long-term effects of the Sarcophagus, and consciously choose death over insanity. The System Lords do not care. Some System Lords, such as Yu, use the device nearly every day. However, the most successful ones use it intermittently, to stave off the effects of the device on their minds. Ba'al (the last living System Lord, uses it only a few minutes every other months or so).
    History
The first Sarcophagus was created by an ancient Goa'uld known as Telchak. It was derived from the an even more ancient healing device. The Tok'ra do not generally (nor causally) use the sarcophagus, claiming that it damages the soul. However, a Sarcophagus is known not only to give life, but to actually sustain life in a form of stasis for several thousand years (as demonstrated by the Goa'uld Hathor, who had been sealed away in a sarcophagus for almost 2,000 years, without any age or ill effects), making it a highly effective prison. Another Goa'uld, Marduk, was known to have been sealed away in a sarcophagus for 4,000 years, along with a vicious and dangerous creature intended to devour the Goa'uld. Because of the sarcophagus's special ability to keep the Goa'uld alive, it may have taken the vicious creature a long while to slowly devour the Goa'uld, as the device rebuilds the Goa'uld as the creature ate him alive- A long, painful, and agonizing process that resulted in an "eternal torture." The Goa'uld use the device on prisoners when their torture methods accidentally or intentionally kill their victims. The limits of the Sarcophagus were demonstrated by Lord Yu, whose extreme age reduced the effectiveness of the sarcophagus's regenerative powers. This confirmed that as powerful as sarcophagus technology is, it cannot grant true immortality.
    Attitudes Towards The Sarcophagus
Each faction that have Sarcophagi are free to develop their own policies towards the devices; The Tok'Ra use them only to rebuild broken bodies. Missing limbs, etc., are repaired and that's about it. The Hak'tyl use them to rebuild broken bodies and the treat life-threatening illnesses that can not be treated otherwise, but otherwise try to avoid them. The Free Jaffa Nation use them a bit more liberally, but have been tweaking their policy over time to determine what the final policy will be. They are, however, trying to avoid using the devices as much as possible. The Tau'ri (the UGC) hasn't actually used theirs yet, but are studying the device to try to find a way to correct the psychosis it induces, or to find safe use limits. If one or the other can be found, it will have huge medical potential. Until then it's too dangerous to use.
