| The third Director Of Fehran Security Services appointed under IPA (later UGC) occupation was VOSS Sleia, a Fehran woman who'd been born a decade after the fall of the Atorian Em However, over the course of her career whispers were heard; The absolute cultural norm of the Fehrans for over a thousand years men were draft animals and breeders, nothing more. Some might have a status as a favored pet, but even a woman's ginah (roughly analogous to a Terran dog) was treated better. Those whispers said something toxic to any Fehran woman's life; "She treats her breeder far too well..." An investigative reporter discovered the smoking gun- Sleia was absolutely heterosexual. The scandal that followed threatened not only Sleia's career but her very life. Sleia's salvation came in two forms; Immediately the REF Garrison Commander, Captain Renee SKIDMORE, expressed an opinion that Sleia's life choices shouldn't effect her standing. Though not an explicit threat, when the very person who can order your planet leveled makes a passing remark in your support people tend to sit down, shut up, and grouse quietly. Her second salvation came in her personal handling of the scandal; Other than a particularly ugly incident in a courtroom where an Atorian sympathizer attempted to assassinate her (Sleia "beak the brakes off of her" attacker before being restrained and asking to be escorted out, then apologized for disturbing the court and paid a minor fine) she handled the matter with a grace bordering on machoism. She gave several interviews and did nothing more than bluntly stated she preferred males and had since she was at least 16. Nothing more, nothing less. Every abuse heaped upon her (other than the incident in the courtroom) she would just shrug and say little more than "Ok" if even that. Watching this was a recent arrival, the former Atorian HALAVNIE Fehlain. Fehlain had grown up in the Atorian system but chose to defect after capture during a failed raid on Sevrin. As a condition of her parole Fehlain was forced to wear a red coat with a yellow trim. Red coats and shirts had been the traditionally required dress of parolees under the Atorian system, the addition of the yellow trim was added for Atorian defectors (since the Atorian uniform was yellow trim on a blue outfit). As Fehlain would later explain herself; She announced the formation of her guild by stepping out of her apartment with her man, a Fehran/T'sen/Terran named Joahses HOWARD, following him to his left and behind and wearing a heavy standard steel slave collar while he did not. The symbolism of this alone was lost on no one. The norm in Atorian society would have been the exact opposite and Fehran society hadn't changed much at this point that guns couldn't force, and as they walked 10 blocks to the courthouse they drew many observers. At the courthouse was when the real announcement began; Fehlain petitioned to have her name legally changed from HALAVNIE to d'HOWARD, taking the man's name- A total and complete declaration of submission to a man, inverting several thousand years of Atorian/Fehran culture. The next day she filed the paperwork needed for an LLC named "Reddites United," listed as a non-profit dedicated to defending heterosexual Fehran woman. Within a year they had around a thousand members (a pittance compared to the hundreds of millions of Fehrans still on world, but not insignificant), many of whom were actually as homosexual as any normal Fehran woman- They just liked the idea of bucking the system for it's own sake. Their overall philosophy is best described as anti-misandrist; For over a decade Sleia's example was cited as the model, and after retiring from Fehran Security Services Sleia herself joined, being proclaimed the First Patron and spiritual founder in the same ceremony where she took her collar off of her man and had him put it on her then proceeded to allow him to brand her in the manner of a common slave. (Sleia's collar was gold since her man had given her a child.) There was never been a feud for leadership of The Reddites; Sleia didn't want the job. Fehlain has never asked Sleia to do much except write a few letters in support of the goals; She did ask for help establishing the culture and Sleia gave some advice but mostly was content to sit back and watch others "Be Happy." Not all Atorians were happy with the Empire; In fact a sizable population was specifically UNHAPPY with it. Before the war began a growing counterculture movement had existed which was increasingly willing to question imperial assumptions about everything from government to sexuality and had long since concluded that the Empire had become decadent, corrupt, and abusive, and who did not merely oppose the coming war with the |
The largest faction collaborated with the REF directly eventually becoming the Fehran Security Service, but a smaller faction known as the Dhituh also formed; The Dhituh began not as a political organization but as a social circle surrounding DHITUH Vuhndrihd, an unusually outgoing Atorian woman whose home had become a gathering place for other women who were increasingly dissatisfied with the Empire and its highly restrictive social order. Vuhndrihd's circle included women who had sexually experimented men and had become increasingly interested in the very things Imperial propaganda told them to fear- Namely imperial propaganda claiming that all Atorian women would be raped by the invaders. (That never happened because males in the REF were already busy fending off the Meltreadi and Paraxians.) The regime had treated the movement as treasonous but Vuhndrihd's circle was sufficiently small and harmless enough to escape notice; Meanwhile they were already looking beyond the Empire, fascinated by the prospect of the aliens' arrival and particularly by the possibility of relationships with men and with other species. When the first non-combat landing occurred on Fehra Vuhndrihd's reaction became legendary; Seeing the first arrivals, she erupted with an ecstatic "MR ALIEN!" It was less a political declaration than a full Beatlemania-style emotional collapse and the women around her immediately understood that the moment they had been waiting for had arrived. The informal guild that subsequently formed around Vuhndrihd took her personal name and her ecstatic cry of "MR ALIEN!" became their informal battle cry. What began in Vuhndrihd's living room soon became an organized guild. The Dhituh went from an improvised social circle to a serious organization with surprising speed. Collaboration with the victorious forces proved surprisingly lucrative. Among their earliest major acquisitions was a large super-freighter gifted to them for their use at the convenience of REF Admiral BEVELSK which they converted into a cruise ship and turned into both a remarkably profitable commercial operation and a venue for their private gatherings. In time it would contain a mall roughly half the size of downtown Los Angeles and more than twenty additional shopping areas, dozens of messdecks, and over two hundred six-star-rated chefs, many of whom working as line cooks for the fabulous pay. The Dhituh became prosperous very quickly, and they never forgot why: They had bet everything on the belief that the Empire would lose the war and won the bet. The Dhituh proudly present themselves as the people who recognized where history was going before anyone else did. Their xenophilia and willingness to explore relationships across species and genders likewise remained fundamental to the culture, rather than being a temporary consequence of the war. Since the REF ultimately won the war, that gamble transformed itself into a remarkably durable conviction that the Dhituh had not merely been rebels, they had been visionaries. Their early reputation was consequently rather rough, exuberant, and unmistakably improvised, but they were never unintelligent or hedonistic. Many were highly intelligent, sophisticated, and extraordinarily capable people who simply recognized an opportunity and seized it. Worse still while all Atorians had benefitted from the empire they hadn't benefitted equally; Many had been treated as second or even third class citizens within the species. They'd felt the pain of the elites wealth and control over society, and they were far from happy about it. As the REF conducted the final mop up operations on Fehra herself a small army of around 2,000 Atorians literally arched into the REF's forward command area bearing arms and armor. Most of the weapons were third rate by militry standards (though some were first rate by civilian standards) and the armor was mostly home made or mix and match police and militry armor (or even a combination thereof). They offered their services to the victors as front line security and were accepted as such- Even under the corrupt BEVELSK administration they received extra rations; Under the brutal DAALA administration they were highly valued members of her security apparatus. As time has moved on the children of that era have grown up, had children, and passed away in the natural order. When the UGC finally relented the internment of the Fehrans a large number formed what at first were citizen militias. Many were REF veterans, and many were also half-Fehran and half-something else (a lot of T'sentreadi can be accounted this way). As they proved their dedication to their craft, their loyalty to Fehra, and their acceptance of the UGC's rule, they were allowed to join the Fehra Defense Forces as units. 243 Criminal activity by 243 Unofficially however many Assessment Most analysts initially think 243 243 High Water Marks: 243 Recruitment: 243 Training: 243 Owner: Member owned.
