When a VF-1 is sold for scrap, it usually ends up getting cut up and melted down; However, on occasion, they are actually rebuilt for civilian use. They typically carry a modified version

of the NR-BP-T1 FAST "Trainer" Packs, originally developed as booster capable of carrying a full supply of fuel inside; They carry no armament, though they are occasionally equipped with some types of sensors. They can launch from the surface of a planet and enter orbit entirely on their own.
The weapons are removed of course, and the engines replaced with more cost-effective units, as well as a new (unarmed) head unit. Finally, they are equipped with a perment version of the NR-FB-T1 FAST Packs, originally designed for the VT-1D Trainer and containing more fuel at the cost of armor and had a slightly different vernier configuration.
These are usually purchased by various heavy industrial, construction, and other commercial concerns, though the accessibility and ease of modification make them attractive targets for criminals who operated the VT-1C for various purposes (even poaching); Indeed, it was a rampage by raiders operating VT-1C's that led to the development of the dedicated anti-Mecha AV-98 Ingram Police Destroid (the VT-1C's destroyed three Policeman Destroids and a pair of PV-07 Police Veritech).
Legally, the only thing stopping everyone in the entire UGC from purchasing these craft is cost; There are only a few million Veritech Fighters and Attackers taken off-line every year, and 90% of these are structurally defective (usually macroscopic cracking to the forward dorsal and nose airframe). That means only a few thousand potential units that could be made available every year; Even then, less than 10% are converted. Most are just scrapped out as originally intended.
Pragmatically most individuals don't purchase these craft for their own use. Corporations usually buy them for various heavy work projects where the ability to fly is necessary to completion of the job. They are often employed in a manner similar to that of industrial helicopters, and one in fact was well known as KATC 8's "Eye In the Sky" until it crashed after colliding with another aircraft while following the HARRISON-CALDWELL-VR'HIHEE Chase (the principles were actually charged with murder for "showboating" during their chase, resulting in the extensive news coverage, and therefore the crash; it also resulted in the Carson Act, named for the pilot of KATC 8's Veritech).
A couple of VT-1C's were also captured from poachers on Zola. The gang had developed a harpoon launching gun-like unit. The unit selected didn't strike game Wardens as particularly efficient, but they did work. More importantly, the gang didn't have a license to hunt on Zola, and the animals they were hunting (including whales) that were strictly off-limits (no licenses available).
The VT-1 is not used by the REF nor most RDF's, which generally use the in-house created VT-02 Construction Veritech.

Powerplant: Twin Shinnakasu Heavy Industry/P&W/Roice KV-3021 turbine engines; Output: 18,626.3 lbs at 415 MW each.
Cost and Availability: Exact prices fluctuate, but generally run 25,000-3.1millioncredit; Not terribly common, but those with connections can get them relatively easily. Outfitting costs run based on the owner's needs and interests.
Mechanical Systems:
The VT-01 Worker Veritech isn't supposed to be armed; As such, no 'Weapons Systems" are listed. However, they commonly have every manner of mechanical equipment for working, including winches, slings, tractor beams (rarely used), repulor beams (also rarely used), etc, so forth, so on, ad infinitum.
Black marketeers are known on occasion to variously arm their VT-01's; For example, above you see a version confiscated on Zola for hunting whales. While this is by far the most unique example to date, it is by no means to only examples to date.
Features:
  • Radar: Civilian grade radar. Range: 200 miles, can track up to 200 individual targets. 90% reliability (0% against stealthed vehicles).
  • ESM: Radar Detector. Passively detects other radars being operated.
  • Type-11 wide band radios: Effective 10 mile range, auto encrypt/decrypt. Works on standard radio band wavelengths, so it can still be jammed (if the enemy knows the frequencies).
  • Loudspeaker: Amplifies voice 1 to 100 times. 100 feet in normal crowds.
  • CBR Protection: Complete chemical, biohazard, and radiological protection.
  • Motion Detector: Activates a loud wailing when an object is coming at the user fast, and a soft ringing if it's coming slowly. Activation ranges must be specified by the pilot.
  • GPS: Standard tracking device.
  • Vacuum Seal: Permits the Mecha to be used in hard vacuum (such as outer space), and other hostile environments.
  • FLIR/SLIR: Forward and Side Looking Infrared. Allows pilot and weapons officer to get visuals on targets at night.
  • Ground Crew Force Tracker: Tracks the crafts ground crew (if their wearing or carrying the appropriate tracking device) and overlays the information on both the radar and HUD, ensuring that friends are not accidentally killed.
  • Video Recorder: Records from sensors and the cockpit itself. 500 hours of recording available.
  • HUD: Displays maps, radar, targeting information, and any OTHER information the wearer wants directly in front of the user.
  • Virtual Map: Displays a continuously-updating map of local terrain for the pilot. Effective land navigation of 85% as updates come. Good to 50 miles. Specific range can be adjusted in 1 mile increments.
  • Survival Pack: A pack of simpler emergency survival supplies: Pup tent, sleeping bag, black light, GPS, First aid kit (bandages, gauze, bandage tape, pads, antiseptic/analgesic), plasma torch (for small repairs and starting fires), repair kit (with MDC Repair Spray), sewing kit (a small spool of thread and 5 needles), 7 star flares (250 foot apogee), 2 white parachute flares (1,500 foot apogee), 100 feet of black or brown parachute cord (150 lbs tensile strength), 2-5 days rations, 2 gallons water, water purification kit- good for about 10 gallons.
  • Oxygen Rebreather System: Extends pilots air supply to 100 hours; Cartridge MUST be replaced after that period of time.
  • Internal temperature and humidity control: Automatically maintains users desired heat, humidity, and other personal comfort settings.
  • Heat And Radiation Shielding: Special shielding prevents the penetration of life threatening heat and radiation.
  • Variable Tint Cockpit Canopy: Adjusts tinting to light conditions, up to an including a black dot if the sun is directly on the pilots face (only covers eyes).
  • COMPATIBLE FAST PACKS:
Any FAST Pack compatible with the VF-1 and VA-1 are compatible with the VT-01, but none are legal. The VT-01 does have a version of the dorsal NR-BP-T1 "Trainer" and leg NR-FB-T1 Conformal Propellant Tanks, but these really only maintain pre-rebuild speed and maneuverability. They are also permanently integrated into the craft.
Combat Bonuses From VT-01 Work Veritech: None. All combat ablities have been effectively stripped out.
