WATER MOCCASIN-Class
High Speed Patrol Boat

Various groups during the Global Civil War attempted to arm nominally civilian platforms to militry and para-militry duties; The WATER MOCCASIN-Class was but one example of this effort.
A Malcontent Water Moccasin from Bazilia
The class was adapted from the 21' South Florida-Class fan boats, unique to the southern Florida bayous by the Florida National Guard shortly after Hurricane Marlene ripped half the state and most of Louisiana apart. Because of shortages in weapons, the boats were almost to a one unique. However, literally tons of scrap metals lying every which way gave them a fairly uniform protection. The armor installed at the time was clearly unsuitable for current weapons, but the armor was easily enough replaced.
At the time of the advent of the WATER MOCCASIN-Class the boats proved infinitely successful, but as the post Marlene chaos subsided, the boats were abandoned and forgotten; They would have slipped into the abyss of history, had not one clogged a farmers water inlet. After dragging the boat out, he demanded the FNG repay him for damage to the inlet, loss of crops, AND the expense of pulling the debris.
FNG officers came out and confiscated the boat, and the case remained tied up in court for decades (the FNG says they won't pay because the farmer didn't advise them of the boat being stuck to begin with; the farmer says he had no way of knowing it was their abandoned property that had gotten stuck, and if they'd removed it themselves it still would've been destroyed in the removal process; and round and round).
The boat removed was pretty twisted up; It had literally been twisted amidships about 38 degrees and the keel literally broken (shattered, actually, across a 5' area). Enough remained, however, to reconstruct the boat. The FNG reverse engineered the boat, and combined with what few historical records could be recovered determined the boats had been armed with one or two heavy forward cannons, such as the 35MM auto cannon, with a medium to heavy machinegun in a turret amidships.
The boats enjoy some popularity now, but nothing on the order of their potential; This is partly because they are too small to be considered a serious threat, and partly because the schematics have not been disseminated as widely as it should have been. However, a unique experiment had one of these little boats equipped with a grav pod; it was able to operate literally anywhere except space (at least, not without a space suit and adaptor kit), and operate at speed significantly higher than any tank, and ranges on par with a FOLKER-Class Landship. This has made them fairly popular with those ships as area scouts.
More interest has been shown by malcontents; most especially, Steinerian and Gamorrean rebels. These are generally employed in light armored vehicle duties.

Clearance: 10 feet.
Beam: 15 feet.
Length: 25 feet.
Weight: 1 ton.
Cargo: Crew supplies only.
Cruise Range: Can operate up to 20 hours without support, but VERY rarely goes more than a few hours.
Power Plant: 2003 inch hydro-cell engines.
Propulsion: A massive fan, ussually about 6 feet across with four blades.
Flight System: Grav pods, but not inteded to fly per se.
Cost and Availability: 6,000credit; Takes about 6 months to build.
Black Market Cost and Availability: Could be as little as 10% to 10 times as much, and fairly popular.

Weapons Systems:
1. Forward Auto-Cannon: Auto cannons were selected for hitting power, despite it's limited magazine.
Purpose: Anti-Personnel
Damage: 4D4
Blast Radius : 15 feet
Rate Of Fire: Per pilot's attacks per melee.
Effective Range: 200 feet
Payload: 200 rounds.
2. Medium Laser Cannons: These chest mounted lasers are the main weap selected by most pilots. They have a cone of fire of 45 degrees in all directions, and can be set to single or combined operations.
Purpose: Anti-Armor
MD: 2D6 per blast
Rate Of Fire: Per pilot's attacks per melee.
Range: 300 feet
Payload: Unlimited.
Features:
  • AMC/FD (2): Anti-Missile Chaff/Flare Dispensers. Actually launches a glob of burning magnesium/aluminum alloy to confuse both radar AND heat sensory systems. Fires off 04 chaff/flares each time it is activated. The system is KNOWN to work on all KNOWN radar and infrared systems, but concerns continue that somewhere out there their MIGHT be a system that will be totally unaffected by the system. Reduce effects by 20% against smart missiles (add +20% to rolls for smart missiles).
    Effect:
01-50 Enemy missile or missile volley detonates in chaff cloud- Missiles are all destroyed.
51-75 Enemy missile or missile volley loses track of real target and veers away in wrong direction (may lock onto another target).
76-00 No effect, missile is still on target.
Also note that the chaff cloud will also blind nearby heat sensors (and optically based sensors at night) for 1 melee. They will suffer the following penalties: Reduce melee attacks/actions, and combat bonuses by half.
    Duration: 1D4 melee rounds.
Payload: 120 chaff/flares. Each time the system is engaged, the system fires off 04 chaff/flares.
  • ESM: Radar Detector. Passively detects other radars being operated.
  • Radar: Civilian grade radar. Range 200 miles, can track up to 50 individual targets. 80% reliability (00% against unfriendly stealthed vehicles).
  • HUD: Displays maps, radar, targeting information, and any OTHER information the crew member wants directly in front of them.
  • Virtual Map: Displays a continuously-updating map of all bodies ahead for the pilot. Takes data from and gives data to other ships in the area. Effective navigation of 85% as updates come. Good to 500 miles. Specific range can be adjusted in 1 mile increments.
  • Video Camera: Records from the HUD. 50 hours of recording available.
  • Full range optic sensory suite: Infrared, ultra violet, Magnification, night sight, color filters, thermal imager. Range is about 200 miles for MOST sensors.
  • EPIRB: Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon; An automated distress buoy that can be jettisoned in the event of massive catastrophe. To date, EPIRBS have been used only in 10% of all emergencies, and all of these have been CRITICAL; Fire on board ship.

Combat Profile for WATER MOCCASIN-Class attack boat:
  • None beyond the pilot and gunners abilities.
