  • Early Prototypes; Note The Lack Of Heavy (KX-12) Lasers Nor Long-Range (4L4 Fusial Thrust) Drives; The One On The Left Is An REF-Allied Defense Force, The One On The Right Is Marked As A Palatinian Syhith Order Imperial Guard Fighter, But The Palatinian Syhith Order Is Not Known To Use This Type Of Fighter.
UGC annexation; The X-Wing was the superior fighter in most respects, but the powerplant was a little less than overwhelming. The TIE-Series Interceptor was the greatest powerplant, but the weapons selections left nothing but room to expand.
The X-Ceptor combines the solar panels of a TIE Interceptor with the body of an X-Wing, based on the horribly useless X-TIE Fighter concept; The REF has paid to obtain all remaining X-Wings and X-TIES, and all TIE-In wings, and with these upgrade all X-Wings and X-TIE Fighters to X-Ceptors. (The Chir'daki are still owned by the Twi'lek.)
X-Ceptors are far more effective than the X-TIE Fighters, in all aspects; They are even designed to allow Hyperspace motivators, though they are specifically forbidden to be so installed until delivery to receiving unit is complete, and then only on mission-requirement basis with the unit's CO's endorsement- They are required to be removed when not necessary. Local REF's often leave them installed anyways, but this is specifically forbidden by the REF and has been a continuing source of annoyance to both groups.
The X-Ceptor has had a near quantum-leap in armament (quad SFS L-s9.3 laser cannons, medium-range proton torpedoes) in its First iteration, and the second generation surpassed even this (addition of quad KX12 laser cannons, upgraded shielding, and improved handling).
    History
X-Ceptors have been used by most of the RDF's of the Rakatan Galaxy, and all but a few have even used them in combat at least once; Even the Paraxieum has a wing of 6 available at all times.
    Security
Unlike most REF-related programs, the X-Ceptor (like the Chir'daki) hasn't leaked to the black market; This is partly due to the secrecy surrounding the program (the real reason the REF doesn't want hyperdrive motivators), and partly because the X-TIE, for all it's deficiencies, fills the role the X-Ceptor would fill, for about half the cost, making it more common and therefore easier to obtain.
However, the X-Ceptor is still in service throughout the Rakatan Galaxy, and in limited service with the REF.
    Deployment
The REF prefers to keep only REF-Standardized hardWare on Spacy deployments; However, in the case of the X-Ceptor an exception has been made. These are kept in flights only of X-Ceptors, usually in formations sent to protect the support fleet.
    Strategic Implications And Future
The strategic implications of the X-Ceptor are pretty much non-existent. The ability of hostile parties to replicate the fighter were already established, and the REF isn't particularly worried in number of less the 8-to-1. Even against Block 3⁺ Spacer Fighters, a 5-to-1 engagement "should" result in 25% losses for the UGC affiliated forces and a 75% loss rate for the X-Ceptor equipped forces. In conjunction with Chir'dakis, these numbers rise proportionally (the Chir'daki IS recognized as a superior fighter), but not enough to cause the UGC to change views (the REF is much more concerned, however, and has been progressively trying to upgrade the Spacer, Guardian, and Veritech fleets, one of the motivations to press for the Super Alpha).
The X-Ceptor's future is not entirely certain; The UGC's decision to pay for X-Tie upgrades to X-Ceptor was NOT universally supported and has remained a minor point of contention ever since. The UGC has stopped funding support for the platforms, forcing the local Defense Forces to seek funding from their respective governments, some of whom have elected not to continue such funding.
In conjunction with the Chir'daki they remain a devastating force, and 'can' be on their own at that, but against even a first-generation VF-1 Veritech struggle to keep up, as demonstrated at the Raid Of Defnine and the retaliatory Shuvard Strike. The UGC isn't about to demand the Defense Forces decommission the fighters, but they aren't supporting them any longer either.

Cargo Capacity:There is a small compartment behind the pilot's seat, accessible by leaning the seat forward or opening an underside hatch. 4.75' times 3.5' times 4.75.' Not recommended for a Cyclone (the cockpit was designed to allow body armor or a power armor to be worn while flying).
Cost and Availability: Varies greatly, but the X-Wing is roughly 60,000credit to build and the solar panels run 30,000credit (far more expensive than the standard version).

    Weapon Systems:
    1. Quad SFS L-s9.3 Laser Cannons: Originally designed for the TIE-Interceptor, these are mounted on the forward points of the wings; This is the pilot's most common weap, and the one most preferred for it's cycling design.
    Purpose: Dogfighting.
MD Per Laser: 1D4 per blast.
Rate of Fire: Four times pilots attacks per melee; Each time the trigger is pulled, one of the lasers fire one after another, effectively negating an enemies dodge bonus.
    Range: 2,000 feet.
    Payload: Unlimited.

    2. Twin Taim & Bak KX12 Laser Cannons: Originally developed for the StealthX program (pre-UGC Annexation).
    Purpose: Dogfighting/Anti-Armor.
MD Per Laser: 3D6 per blast.
Rate of Fire: Per pilot's attacks per melee.
    Range: 1,500 feet.
Payload: Unlimited; Unlike the X-TIE, REF engineers were able to develop capacitors able to keep up with the power demand.
    3. Medium-Range Proton Torpedo Launcher: In the ventral side of the fighter is the missile launcher. They are set in a triple stack of 7 each in the top and bottom rows and 6 in the middle (20 total). The missile needs at least 5 miles miles to arm.
    Purpose: Anti-Ship.
MD Per Missile: 3D6 times 10 each.
    Blast Radius: 50 feet.
    Armament Distance: 5 miles.
Rate of Fire: one or two missile per pilot's attacks per melee.
    Range: 50 miles.
    Payload: 20 total.

    4. Sheilds: Exactly the same as any other variable full-force barrier field.
    Purpose: Defense.
    MDC Per Panel: 200 each.
    Number of Panel: 8.
Coverage Characteristics: A full 360 degrees coverage area around the craft.
Notes: Requires only one melee action to raise or change densities; Can be slaved to fire-control to raise/lower automatically upon firing.
    Features:
    • Video Recorder: Records from sensors and the cockpit itself. 500 hours of recording available.
    • Radar: Combat grade radar. Range: 200 miles, can track up to 250 individual targets. 95% reliability (24% against unfriendly stealthed vehicles).
    • FLIR/SLIR: Forward and Side Looking Infrared. Allows pilot and weapons officer to get visuals on targets at night.
    • ESM: Radar Detector. Passively detects other radars being operated.
    • AJP: Active Jamming Pod. Causes -25% to detection but when it is active, other vehicles/bases can detect that it is jamming, and some missiles will home in on jamming signals. Jamming also causes a -4 penalty to all radar guided weapons.
    • Full Range Sensory Suite: Infrared, ultra violet, Magnification, night sight, color filters, thermal imager. Range is about 2,000 miles for MOST sensors.
    • Motion Detector: Activates a loud wailing when an object is coming at the user fast, and a soft ringing if it's coming slowly. Activation ranges must be specified by the pilot.
    • Anti-Jamming System: Reduces Electronics Countermeasure by 3/4 (decrease skill level appropriately).
    • Electronic Counter Measures (ECM): These systems disrupt enemy radar and tracking systems, making it difficult for them to lock onto the ship with weapons. The countermeasures give the Mecha a +3 to dodge, +2 to strike and +1 on initiative in combat.
    • Fire resistance: Fires external to the craft have no effect on it.
    • Grav Clamps: Electro magnets in the underside of the hull allow the unit to adhere to the hulls of Warships and the exteriors of SOME buildings.
    • MRA 6 Radios: Allows real time, continuous radio link up with friendly forces in the area via satellite relay over laser radio signals, preventing jamming, and automatically encrypts/decrypts same to prevent eavesdropping.
    • Type-11 wide band radios: Effective 10 mile range, auto encrypt/decrypt. Works on standard radio band wavelengths, so it can still be jammed (if the enemy knows the frequencies).

Combat Profile for the X-Ceptor Aero-Space Fighter: Actually, it's exactly the same as the Chir'daki, except that the X-Ceptor's bonuses are against fighters in defense mode, or attack against ships. The X-Ceptor's strength is defending against enemy fighters in support of a a Chir'daki's pursuit of an enemy fighter, or as lead against enemy ships. All bonuses at +1 IN THE APPROPRIATE ROLE, except attacks per melee.
    • +4 attacks per melee.
    • +2 Initiative.
    • +4 Strike.
    • +4 Parry, Dodge, and Roll.
